Germany Hammer Curacao 7-1 in World Cup Opener as Nmecha Nets Fastest Goal Yet

Houston, June 2026 : Germany launched their FIFA World Cup campaign in emphatic style, thrashing Curacao 7-1 in their Group E opener on Sunday. Felix Nmecha starred for the four-time world champions by scoring the fastest goal of the tournament so far, setting the tone for a dominant display by Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Germany wasted little time asserting their authority. Just six minutes into the contest, Nmecha combined brilliantly with Florian Wirtz before curling a powerful effort into the bottom corner, registering the quickest goal of the tournament to date.

Despite Germany’s early dominance, Curacao produced a memorable moment in their historic World Cup journey. The Caribbean nation, the smallest country ever to qualify for the tournament in terms of size and population, stunned the Germans midway through the first half.

Zurich midfielder Livano Comenencia etched his name into Curacao football history by equalising with a deflected left-footed strike from outside the box that beat veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who was making his fifth World Cup appearance.

For a brief period, Curacao looked capable of causing an upset. Striker Jurgen Locadia even appealed for a penalty after getting past Jonathan Tah, but the referee waved away the claims.

A hydration break, however, allowed Germany to regroup, and from that point onward there was only one team in control.

The Germans regained the lead through defender Nico Schlotterbeck, who expertly glanced Nathaniel Brown’s corner into the net. Germany continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded in first-half stoppage time when Riechedly Bazoer brought down Nmecha inside the area.

Kai Havertz made no mistake from the penalty spot in the fifth minute of added time, giving Germany a commanding 3-1 advantage heading into the interval.

Any hopes of a Curacao comeback were extinguished almost immediately after the restart. Just 69 seconds into the second half, Jamal Musiala latched onto Joshua Kimmich’s incisive pass, shrugged off his marker and calmly slotted home Germany’s fourth goal.

World Cup debutant Nathaniel Brown then enjoyed a moment to remember as the left-back volleyed in Germany’s fifth after a clever assist from substitute Deniz Undav.

Undav soon got on the scoresheet himself, sweeping home another Kimmich delivery to make it 6-1 as Germany’s attacking machine continued to fire on all cylinders.

The Stuttgart forward capped a superb cameo by turning provider late in the match, setting up Havertz, who delicately chipped the ball over goalkeeper Eloy Room two minutes from time to complete the rout.

Germany’s clinical display underlined their status as one of the tournament favourites, while Curacao, despite the heavy defeat, celebrated a landmark moment in their football history with their first-ever World Cup goal.
