Kolkata Metro Railway Observes 77th Republic Day.

Kolkata; January 2026: Today, on 26th January, 2026, Metro Railway, Kolkata observed the 77th Republic Day with enthusiasm and fervour.

Mr. Subhransu S. Mishra, General Manager, Metro Railway unfurled the National Flag at Metro Rail Bhavan this morning and took the Guard of Honour from Metro RPF.

In his address to the officers & staff of Metro Railway and Media persons, he spoke about the various achievements of Metro Railway in different spheres and highlighted the growth in passenger traffic and earnings.

Metro Railway is contributing to urban mobility by providing comfortable and reliable journey to lakhs of commuters. General Manager highlighted about recently introduced Return journey QR code based paper ticket and assured that mobile wallet ticketing and ticketing through payment app will be introduced shortly with provision of cancellation of tickets.

In his speech Mr. Misra mentioned about the plan for technology induction like development of a DC-DC converter for the use in BHEL rake through IIT Kharagpur, development of Linear Induction Motor-based propulsion system for Metro coaches through IIT Madras and Battery Energy Storage System.

Towards the end of the function Metro Railway staff presented a cultural programme.

Republic Day was also observed at other Metro Railway branch offices and stations.
