Nat Sciver-Brunt Creates WPL History with First-Ever Century, Rewrites Batting Records
Vadodara, Jan 2026 : Mumbai Indians star Nat Sciver-Brunt etched her name in the history books on Monday by becoming the first player to score a century in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The landmark knock further underlined her status as the most consistent and dominant batter the league has witnessed since its inception.
The 33-year-old right-handed batter produced a masterclass against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 16th match of WPL 2026, remaining unbeaten on 100 off just 57 balls. Her innings, played with trademark composure and controlled aggression, featured 16 fours and one six, and came at a blistering strike rate that left the opposition bowlers searching for answers.
With this knock, Sciver-Brunt also achieved another unprecedented milestone — she became the first batter to cross the 300-run mark in three different WPL seasons. In the inaugural 2023 season, she scored 332 runs in 10 matches at an impressive average of 66.40. She then went a step further in WPL 2025, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with a remarkable 523 runs in 10 matches. In the ongoing WPL 2026, she has already amassed 319 runs at a staggering average of 79.75, with scores of 4, 70, 65, 15, 65* and now 100*.
Sciver-Brunt’s consistency has translated into all-time records. She is currently the leading run-scorer in WPL history with 1,346 runs, holds the record for the most half-centuries (12), and has been involved in the most century partnerships (5) in the league.
Her historic century also ended a long wait in the WPL for a three-figure score. In 2025, UP Warriorz’s Georgia Wareham fell agonisingly short with an unbeaten 99 against RCB, while Sophie Devine was dismissed for 99 for RCB against Gujarat Giants in 2023.
On Monday, Sciver-Brunt’s innings powered Mumbai Indians to a commanding total of 199 for 4 at the BCA Stadium. After the early loss of Sajeevan Sajana for 7 at 16, Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews stitched together a vital 131-run partnership in 73 balls. Matthews contributed a fluent 56 off 39 balls, including nine boundaries. Later, Sciver-Brunt added 42 runs for the third wicket with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (20) to further tighten Mumbai’s grip on the contest.
For RCB, Lauren Bell was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Nadine de Klerk and Shreyanka Patil chipped in with one apiece. However, the night firmly belonged to Nat Sciver-Brunt — a batter who continues to redefine excellence in the Women’s Premier League.
