Sericulture Minister Inaugurates ‘Resham Krishi Mela’ in Mizoram

Aizawl, January 2026: The Resham Krishi Mela for sericulture farmers was organised today at the Sericulture Training Institute, Zemabawk, through a joint initiative of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and the Department of Sericulture, Government of Mizoram. The programme was inaugurated by Sericulture Minister Pu Lalthansanga, while Pi Florence Zotluangpuii, Secretary, Sericulture Department, presided over the event. More than 100 sericulture farmers, along with entrepreneurs and officials, participated in the mela.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Pu Lalthansanga said that sericulture in Mizoram is primarily practised by farmers in hilly areas who cultivate Maimaw silkworms. He stated that under the Bana Kaih Policy, the Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma has been giving strong impetus to the sector. He added that the Sericulture Department has been continuously taking initiatives to strengthen the sector, including the recruitment of additional manpower to ensure more efficient functioning. The Minister encouraged farmers to work with dedication and readiness to adapt, and urged them to make effective use of the Resham Krishi Mela.

During the morning session, Dr. Gandhi Doss from the Central Silk Board – CSR&TI, Berhampore; Pu Lalrinawma, Director, Department of Sericulture; and Dr. Lalthlamuana Pachuau, Scientist-D, REC, Aizawl, spoke on various avenues for the development of Maimaw silkworm rearing in Mizoram and highlighted technical aspects to enhance farmers’ productivity.

In the afternoon session, Pu B. Lalchhuana, Joint Director, Sericulture Department, conducted a technical session followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment. Dr. Pavan J.S., Scientist-B, CSB-REC, Aizawl, delivered the vote of thanks, after which the Resham Krishi Mela concluded.

The primary objective of the Resham Krishi Mela is to help people in hilly regions achieve sustainable livelihoods through Maimaw silkworm rearing, strengthen cooperation between farmers and technical staff, and promote continuous development of the sericulture sector through various initiatives.
