Imran Khan’s Secret Medical Check Has Flagged Legal & Medical Jurisprudence.

Islamabad; February 2026: Expressing serious reservations over the manner in which incarcerated PTI founder & former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan was examined by a medical team, party leader Latif Khosa has formally approached Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, as per official sources yesterday.

The letter highlights deep concerns regarding the former premier’s check-up, which reportedly took place in “secrecy” at the Adiala jail on Sunday. The medical evaluation followed after a Supreme Court instruction to assess the leader’s condition before February 16th, after the bench was informed that the former prime minister had only “15% vision left in his right eye”.

While a team of doctors visited the facility on February 15th, the PTI has contested the process, citing the exclusion of the leader’s relatives and trusted physicians. In his correspondence, Khosa, acting as legal counsel in the Toshakhana case, asserted that conducting the examination in “secrecy, without notice to the family or independent doctors, has given rise to serious apprehensions”.

According to the report, the letter has cited that the “continued exclusion of the petitioner’s family and personal medical practitioners from information concerning his health has created unavoidable doubts”. The PTI leader further warned that “such secrecy not only undermines confidence in the medical process but is also causing unrest and distress among his family members, friends and supporters”.

Highlighting the leader’s age of 73, Khosa stated that “his advancing age and declining health are matters of grave concern not only for his family but for the people of Pakistan at large”. Khosa pointed out that despite being a widely supported political figure, the PTI founder remains “deprived of basic

human necessities during a period when his medical condition demands care and transparency”.

He noted that for several months, reports regarding the deterioration of the petitioner’s eyesight and overall health have triggered nationwide anxiety.

Referring to a report submitted to the apex court on February 11 by Barrister Salman Safdar, Khosa noted that the findings were “alarming”. As detailed in the report by Dawn, Khosa claimed that the

document “confirms that the petitioner has been left with only approximately 15% vision in his right eye”. Khosa has further alleged that despite “repeated complaints of blurred and hazardous vision, no timely or adequate medical intervention was undertaken by the jail authorities”. Khosa strongly refuted claims that the family had voluntarily skipped the Sunday check-up, calling such assertions “wholly incorrect and unrealistic”.

He maintained that at no point were the family members, personal physicians or counsel informed and instead, a “panel of handpicked doctors” was utilised. The letter also noted that the former prime minister has “repeatedly sought access to his personal doctors, namely Faisal Sultan and Asim Yousaf”, for an independent review of his eye condition.

Khosa further noted that while meetings were previously permitted under jail regulations, it has now been several months since “no meeting has been allowed”, effectively denying the family access to the incarcerated leader.

The medical team that has examined Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan has furnished

report highlighting a 6/24 partial vision in the right eye and 6/9 in the left eye unaided. According to the report, with glasses, Khan’s vision was 6/9 partial in the right and 6/6 in the left eye. In standard eye test measurements, 6/6 vision indicates that someone can clearly see at a distance of 06 metres what a person with typical eye sight is expected to see at the same distance. By contrast, 6/9 vision means that at 06 metres, the person can only make out details that someone with normal vision could see from nine metres away.

The medical board constituted comprised of Dr Prof Nadeem Qureshi, the head of the vitreoretinal department at the Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital in Rawalpindi, and Dr Prof M Arif, the head of the ophthalmology department at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.

A slit lamp examination showed that the “cornea was clear bilaterally” and there were “no cells in the anterior chamber”. The report further stated that in the right eye, the vitreous was clear with a “few fibrillar opacities seen, no cells appreciated”. “Mild intragel haemorrhage seen at 6 o’clock periphery”, the report said.

“Moderately dense retinal haemorrhage in all four quadrants. Four to five cotton wool spots seen in different quadrants. Resolving macular oedema seen. Foveal contour visible. Retina is attached”, the report added.

The results of the optical coherence tomography (OCT) test said that in the right eye, the macular oedema was “resolving and reduced. Central macular thickness reduced from 550 to 350”, the OCT test findings added. However, there are no published reports of Specular Microscopy – a yest to determine the actual state of Cornea.

According to the report, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan and Opposition Leader in the Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas visited PIMS in Islamabad on Sunday, where doctors briefed them on Imran Khan’s condition. Even Imran Khan’s personal physicians were briefed over a phone call.

However, earlier, PTI leader Latif Khosa formally approached Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi, expressing serious reservations over the manner in which incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan was examined by a medical team. His letter highlighted deep concerns regarding the former premier’s check-up, which reportedly took place in “secrecy” at the Adiala jail.
