Navi Mumbai, Feb 2026 : Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the foundation stone laying of FedEx’s dedicated cargo hub at the Navi Mumbai International Airport marks a historic milestone for India, Mumbai, and Maharashtra in the logistics and supply-chain sector. He expressed confidence that the facility will significantly boost industry, exports, and trade across the state. In the context of shifting global trade dynamics, FedEx’s decision to invest in Mumbai reflects India’s economic strength and global confidence in Maharashtra’s infrastructure, he added.
The foundation stone for the FedEx dedicated cargo hub was laid by CM Fadnavis at Navi Mumbai International Airport, where he was speaking at the event.
Among those present were Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, MLA Manda Mhatre, former MP Ramsheth Thakur, CIDCO Managing Director and Vice Chairman Vijay Singhal, Raigad District Collector Kishan Jawale, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. Director Jeet Adani, FedEx President and CEO Raj Subramaniam, FedEx MEIS President Kami Viswanathan, Richard Smith, and Arun Bansal.
CM Fadnavis said FedEx’s strong global presence and advanced technology will give a major push to cargo handling and trade in Maharashtra. He also expressed confidence that Navi Mumbai International Airport will emerge as one of India’s best and busiest passenger and cargo airports.
He added that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will be a key driver of India’s future economic growth and a major contributor to the $5 trillion economy by 2047. Reducing logistics costs is crucial for national development, and companies like FedEx will help achieve this through technology. Maharashtra, a leader in manufacturing, will see widespread benefits for industry, exports, and the entire business ecosystem from this facility.
Speaking at the event, Jeet Adani said FedEx’s choice of Navi Mumbai as a hub reflects global confidence in Maharashtra’s infrastructure. Its strategic location near Jawaharlal Nehru Port and state-of-the-art cargo facilities will make it globally competitive, directly connecting exporters, MSMEs, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture to international markets.
FedEx CEO Raj Subramaniam said the fully automated, world-class air cargo hub—FedEx’s first in India—will be built over 300,000 sq ft with global-standard technology. With a long-term investment exceeding USD 250 million, the project aligns with India’s national logistics cost strategy and the PM Gati Shakti initiative. Operating across nearly 220 countries, FedEx said the Navi Mumbai hub will strengthen India’s integration into global supply chains.
The hub will generate over 6,000 direct and indirect jobs and enhance connectivity with Southeast Asia, West Asia, Europe, and the US. Initial cargo capacity is expected to be about 0.5 million metric tonnes annually, expanding to around 3.25 million metric tonnes in later phases.
