Court Clears Kejriwal–Sisodia in Liquor Policy Case, Harbhajan Singh Hails Verdict as ‘Truth’s Victory’
New Delhi, Feb 2026 : Former Indian cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh on Friday welcomed a Delhi court’s decision to discharge Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and senior party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the liquor policy case, calling it a reaffirmation of truth.
The order was passed by the Rouse Avenue Court, which discharged Kejriwal, Sisodia and 21 other accused. The court held that the Central Bureau of Investigation’s chargesheet failed to establish any overarching conspiracy, criminal intent, bribery, or quid pro quo in the formulation or implementation of Delhi’s now-withdrawn excise policy. Observing that the allegations were not supported by material evidence on record, the court concluded that no prima facie case was made out to proceed with a trial.
Reacting to the verdict, Harbhajan Singh posted “Satyameva Jayate” (Truth Alone Wins) on his official X handle. The message was widely seen as an endorsement of the Aam Aadmi Party’s long-standing claim that the case was politically motivated and aimed at targeting its leadership. Singh, popularly known as the “Turbanator,” entered the Rajya Sabha in March 2022 as an AAP nominee from Punjab and has since been an outspoken supporter of the party’s leadership in Parliament and public forums.
Outside the courtroom, Kejriwal addressed the media alongside Sisodia, describing both of them as “kattar imaandaar” (fiercely honest). He termed the case a “political conspiracy” and said the verdict vindicated their position after years of legal and political scrutiny. Sisodia echoed similar sentiments, stating that the court’s findings exposed the lack of substance in the allegations.
The case stemmed from alleged irregularities in the excise policy that was later withdrawn. The Central Bureau of Investigation had accused the leaders of conspiracy and corruption. However, the trial court found no evidence to substantiate these claims. The CBI has indicated it will study the order and consider appropriate legal remedies before the Delhi High Court.
Political reactions followed swiftly. AAP leaders described the order as a major vindication, while BJP representatives said the legal process could continue through an appeal. For Harbhajan Singh, the brief but pointed post underscored his clear support for the AAP leadership in the wake of a verdict that has significant political and legal implications.
