Noida International Airport to operate with one runway in the First Phase

Annual passenger capacity to be 12 million; about 150 flights expected to operate daily in the first phase

Lucknow, March 2026 : The Noida International Airport being developed in the Jewar area of Gautam Buddha Nagar district is rapidly moving toward operational readiness. Nearly 95 percent of the construction work for the first phase of this ambitious project of the state government has been completed. The remaining work is expected to be finished by November 10.

In the first phase, the airport will operate with one runway and will have an annual passenger handling capacity of 1.20 crore passengers. On average, around 150 flights are expected to operate daily.

According to officials, once the number of passengers crosses 10 million annually, the process of constructing the second runway will begin. With two runways, the airport will be capable of serving around 7 crore passengers annually.

In the first phase of the Jewar Airport project, the portion being developed over approximately 3,300 acres will be inaugurated. For the project, a total of 6,700 acres of land has already been acquired, while the remaining 5,100 acres is planned to be acquired over the next three months.

Around ₹5,000 crore has been spent on land acquisition for the airport, while approximately ₹7,000 crore is being invested in construction.

The Jewar Airport is planned to be developed as one of the largest and most modern airports in the country.

Once the entire project is completed, the airport will have five runways and will expand to cover about 11,750 acres in total. After its final completion, the airport is expected to handle up to 300 million (30 crore) passengers annually, potentially making it one of the largest airports in the world.

The project is also expected to bring significant economic and industrial growth to the region. The airport’s development will boost logistics, tourism, trade, and industrial activities in the surrounding areas.

It will also generate a large number of direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The state government believes that Jewar Airport will emerge as a major transportation hub for Delhi-NCR and western Uttar Pradesh. Its operation will strengthen regional connectivity and provide a new option for both domestic and international flights.

Experts believe that once the airport becomes operational, it will significantly reduce the growing pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The project is also expected to play a crucial role in strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position on the global investment and trade map.
