Grand Opening of ‘Maharashtra Saree Exhibition’ in New Delhi

New Delhi, March 2026 : The ‘Maharashtra Saree Exhibition’ was inaugurated with great enthusiasm today at the New Maharashtra Sadan in the capital. Showcasing Maharashtra’s rich textile heritage and intricate craftsmanship, the exhibition received an overwhelming response from citizens on its very first day.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Hema Somanathan, President of the IAS Officers’ Wives Association. Development Commissioner of the Handloom Department, Dr. M. Beena, was present as the chief guest, while noted actress Sayali Bhagat graced the occasion as a special guest, adding to the event’s charm.

More than just a sale of sarees, the exhibition is a celebration of Maharashtra’s cultural legacy. It features authentic Paithani, Himroo, Khun, Narayanpeth, and attractive hand-painted sarees. Stalls also offer Kolhapuri chappals and a variety of traditional handicraft items.

The exhibition, organized by Maharashtra Sadan, has been appreciated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who extended his best wishes for the initiative.

Resident Commissioner and Secretary R. Vimala stated that the primary objective of the exhibition is to connect weavers and artisans directly with customers, eliminating middlemen.

As part of the exhibition, a special fashion show has been scheduled for Saturday, March 21, at 6:30 PM. The exhibition will remain open to the public from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM until March 22. Mrs. Vimala has appealed to Maharashtra enthusiasts, saree lovers, and tourists in and around Delhi to visit the exhibition and support rural artisans.

Among those present at the event were Assistant Resident Commissioners Smita Shelar and Nitin Shende, Information Director Hemraj Bagul, Public Relations Officer Manisha Pingale, Manager Pramod Kolpate, Sarika Shelar, Rajshree Patil, Shikha Ajmera, Smita Jadhav, and other distinguished guests.
