Uttarakhand Boosts Infrastructure for Kumbh 2027 with ₹50 Crore Control Centre
Dehradun, March 2026 : Preparations for the 2027 Kumbh Mela are gathering pace in Uttarakhand, with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami approving a major infrastructure project aimed at ensuring smooth and secure management of the mega religious event.
The state government has sanctioned the construction of a Command and Control Center-2 in Haridwar at an estimated cost of ₹50.27 crore. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, an initial installment of ₹20.11 crore has been released for the 2025–26 financial year to kickstart the project.
The proposed facility will serve as the nerve centre for managing key aspects of the Kumbh Mela, including security, traffic regulation, and emergency response systems. Equipped with advanced technology such as CCTV surveillance, real-time data monitoring, and integrated communication systems, the centre is expected to significantly enhance coordination among various departments during the event.
The Kumbh Mela in Haridwar is among the largest religious gatherings in the world, attracting millions of devotees from across India and abroad. With such massive footfall, ensuring safety and efficient crowd management remains a top priority for the administration.
Officials said the new command centre will enable authorities to monitor the movement of pilgrims, respond swiftly to emergencies, and maintain law and order more effectively. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision of organising a technologically advanced, well-managed, and secure Kumbh Mela.
Chief Minister Dhami has directed concerned departments to ensure that construction is completed within the stipulated time frame while maintaining high quality standards. He stressed that the project must be executed without delays to avoid any disruption during the 2027 event.
The move is also seen as a step towards strengthening urban infrastructure and boosting religious tourism in Uttarakhand, positioning the state to host global-scale spiritual gatherings with greater efficiency and preparedness.
