Anaya Bangar Thanks Father After Gender-Affirming Surgery, Calls It a Life-Changing Journey

New Delhi, March 2026: Anaya Bangar, daughter of former India all-rounder and coach Sanjay Bangar, has shared an emotional note expressing gratitude to her father after successfully undergoing gender-affirming surgery in Thailand.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Anaya described the procedure as a major milestone in her journey of self-discovery and identity. She highlighted that the path was not easy, not just for her but also for her family, as they navigated understanding, acceptance, and emotional growth together.

“This journey wasn’t easy… not just for me, but for my family too,” she wrote, adding that there were moments of confusion and questions before reaching a place of acceptance. However, she emphasized that her father’s eventual support became a pillar of strength during one of the most important phases of her life.

Anaya, who is currently recovering in Bangkok, said that having her father by her side during the surgery made the experience more reassuring and meaningful. “His support didn’t come overnight… but when it did, it was real, unconditional, and strong,” she noted, underlining the importance of patience and understanding within families.

She also described the surgery as a significant step toward aligning her identity, adding that love and growth take time but are ultimately worth it. Reports indicate that Sanjay Bangar personally covered the cost of the surgery, further reflecting his support for his daughter’s choices.

Before her transition, Anaya was known as Aryan and had played cricket at various levels, including U-16, U-19, and U-23. She later represented clubs such as Islam Gymkhana in India and Hinckley Cricket Club in the United Kingdom.

Her transition became public in 2023 when she began Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), sharing parts of her journey on social media. While the surgery marks a personal and emotional achievement, Anaya’s association with cricket has become complex.

Current regulations by bodies such as the International Cricket Council and the England and Wales Cricket Board restrict transgender women who have undergone male puberty from participating in elite women’s domestic cricket.

Despite these challenges, Anaya’s story stands as one of resilience, identity, and the evolving dynamics of acceptance within families and society.
