Kondagaon Youth Triumphs at Bastar Heritage Marathon

Raipur, March 2026: A young runner from Kondagaon district has brought pride to his region by securing first place in the Bastar Heritage Marathon held on Sunday. Sanjay Korram, a youth from Chilputi village, hails from a humble farming family and has emerged as a shining example of determination and talent.

His journey from a small village near the Kondagaon–Umarkot road to the marathon track is the result of four to five years of rigorous practice and unwavering dedication. His achievement is particularly remarkable as his race is not just about winning medals, but also about overcoming life’s hardships.

After the loss of his father, Sanjay took on the responsibility of supporting his family. Along with his mother and brothers, he manages their household and tends to six to seven acres of farmland, including maize cultivation. While one of his younger brothers serves in the army and another is pursuing education, much of the family’s responsibility rests on his shoulders.

Although he once dreamed of joining the army to serve the nation, family responsibilities led him to prioritize his home and fields. Despite this, he never gave up his passion for running. His talent has been recognized beyond Bastar as well—he secured fifth place in the Abujhmad Marathon and tenth place in a race organized by the Bhilai Steel Plant, proving his capabilities at the state level.

At the local level, Sanjay Korram has built a strong reputation, consistently winning top prizes in competitions across Kondagaon district. He came to know about the Bastar Marathon through social media and decided to participate, ultimately achieving a remarkable victory.

His success has filled his family and village with pride and stands as an inspiring story—showing that with strong determination, even a young man running along farm fields can shine on the biggest stages of the state.
