Iran Warns of Strong Retaliation Amid Fears of Island Seizure Plot
Tehran, March 2026: Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has issued a stern warning, claiming that intelligence inputs suggest “enemies” are preparing for an operation to seize an Iranian island with backing from a regional country.
In a post on the social media platform X, Ghalibaf cautioned that any such move would trigger an uncompromising response from Iran. He warned that if adversaries proceed with their plans, the vital infrastructure of the supporting regional nation would face “unrelenting attacks without any restriction.”
In a separate statement earlier, Ghalibaf said Iran is closely monitoring military movements by the United States in the region, particularly troop deployments. Referring to rising tensions, he remarked that military miscalculations could have severe consequences, adding that “what the generals have broken, the soldiers can’t fix,” while cautioning against testing Iran’s resolve to defend its territory.
His remarks come amid reports that the Pentagon is considering deploying thousands of troops, including personnel from the elite 82nd Airborne Division, to the Middle East. The potential buildup has further heightened tensions in an already volatile region.
Meanwhile, Washington has indicated that its military focus remains on safeguarding global energy routes, particularly the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz. The waterway serves as a key transit point for a significant portion of the world’s oil supplies.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said US forces are intensifying operations aimed at countering Iran’s capacity to disrupt maritime traffic. “Our military remains focused on eliminating threats to the free flow of energy through the Strait of Hormuz,” she stated, adding that recent strikes have targeted Iranian military infrastructure along the coastline.
The escalating rhetoric follows the joint military actions launched by the United States and Israel on February 28, targeting Tehran and other Iranian cities. The strikes reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader and several senior military officials, significantly raising the stakes in the conflict.
In retaliation, Iran has carried out multiple waves of missile and drone attacks on US and Israeli targets across the region, while tightening control over key maritime routes.
As tensions continue to mount, the situation remains highly fragile, with both sides issuing strong warnings and preparing for possible further escalation.
