Ah & Vety. Minister Attends All Mizo Veterinary Medical Students’ Association Golden Jubilee Celebration
Aizawl : Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga attended the Golden Jubilee celebration of the All Mizo Veterinary Medical Students’ Association (AMVMSA) today at 2:00 PM. The event, held at the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry (CVSc&A.H) Auditorium in Selesih, was graced by the Minister as the chief guest, who also launched the Jubilee Souvenir. Dr. C. Lalrintluanga, Director of the A.H & Veterinary Department, was present as a guest of honor.
In his address, Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga congratulated the AMVMSA members on reaching the significant milestone of 50 years and encouraged them to strive for even greater achievements in the future. He urged the students to pursue their studies with dedication and to contribute actively to the development of their profession and the community. The Minister highlighted the importance of maintaining integrity and accountability in all endeavors and stressed that the success of various development projects depends on the involvement and cooperation of the community.
According to the report presented, the Falkland Vengpui Road, extending to Falkland East, was constructed with approximately ₹480,000 from the Scheme for Financial Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) fund and an additional ₹477,600 contributed by the local community. Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga himself contributed ₹100,000 towards the project. The newly constructed Vengpui Road is 460 feet in length, with a width of 4 meters, and the road thickness measures 6 inches. The construction work began on July 8, 2024, and was completed on July 26, 2024.
In his speech, Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga also mentioned the ongoing efforts to improve the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, including the recruitment of 10 veterinary doctors and 9 Veterinary Field Assistants (VFAs), with plans to address other needs as well. He expressed his appreciation for the department’s efforts to control the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) and highlighted the government’s initiatives to support the livestock sector, including measures to prevent the spread of diseases among animals and to improve the overall health of livestock in the state.
The Minister emphasized the need for further research and development in livestock and poultry management, urging students to focus on their studies and prepare themselves to contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress. He encouraged everyone to work with honesty, dedication, and commitment. The Minister also noted that the government has been consistently investing in various projects to support the growth of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, and under the Bana Kaih policy, only the most necessary and effective projects will be prioritized for funding and support.
Director Dr. C. Lalrintluanga, in his address, expressed his hope for continued progress in the veterinary field and emphasized the need for cooperation between different departments to achieve better results. He noted that since January this year, 10,739 pigs have died, and 18,978 others have been culled due to ASF, underscoring the importance of continued vigilance and effective management.
The event was presided over by TV C. Lalhlimpuia, President of AMVMSA General Headquarters in Khanapara, Assam, with Rev. Gospel Thanmawia leading the prayers. Dr. V. Lalzarzova, Chairman of the Jubilee Advisory Board, and Dr. Robert Rualthankhuma, President of MVSA & IVA Mizoram, also delivered speeches. TV KM Laltanpuia, President of AMVMSA Sub-HQ Jalukie, Nagaland, gave the vote of thanks, marking the end of the event.
The AMVMSA Golden Jubilee celebration was held under the theme ‘Socio-Economic Development through Animal Husbandry in Mizoram.’ The morning session began at 10:30 AM, led by TV C. Lalhunhlua, President of AMVMSA Sub-HQ Selesih. The event included a remembrance ceremony for deceased members, with speeches from Dr. Lalremliana, President of the Mizoram State Veterinary Council, and Dr. Lalnuntluangi Hmar, Dean of CVSc & A.H Selesih.
The All Mizo Veterinary Medical Students’ Association (AMVMSA) was established on October 25, 1974, with the motto ‘To Empower And Encourage Fellow Veterinarians.’ The General Headquarters is located at the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara, Guwahati, with two sub-headquarters at the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University, Selesih, Mizoram, and the College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University, Jalukie, Nagaland.
Currently, AMVMSA has 118 active members, including 83 students from CVSc & A.H Selesih, 17 from CVSc & A.H Khanapara, Assam, and 18 from CVSc & A.H Jalukie, Nagaland. The association has a total of approximately 480 members, including alumni.
