Naidu Joins Farmers in Amaravati Celebrations After Capital Status Bill

Amaravati, April 2026 : N. Chandrababu Naidu joined farmers in celebratory events on Thursday after Parliament passed a landmark Bill granting statutory status to Amaravati as the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh, calling it a defining moment in the state’s history.

The Chief Minister, accompanied by his wife Nara Bhuvaneswari, participated in a traditional Deepa Harathi ceremony at Uddandarayunipalem — the historic site where Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the capital in 2015. In a symbolic gesture of respect, Naidu knelt at the foundation site, inspected the plaque, and performed puja, underscoring the emotional and political significance of the moment.

Addressing the gathering, Naidu said that Amaravati has now secured irreversible legal recognition as the state capital, marking the culmination of years of struggle, uncertainty, and determination. He described the passage of the Bill as a tribute to the aspirations of the people and, more importantly, to the sacrifices made by thousands of farmers who had pooled their land for the development of the capital region.

“The success of Amaravati will be written in golden letters in India’s history. The contribution of farmers will remain eternal,” he said, adding that the decision restores pride and stability to Andhra Pradesh.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief also claimed that despite facing multiple political and administrative hurdles, his government had successfully reclaimed Amaravati’s status. He asserted that the new legal backing provides a clear identity to the state, which had been lacking since bifurcation.

Naidu acknowledged the support of key leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, for standing by the cause during the prolonged agitation. He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and leaders across political parties for supporting the legislation in Parliament.

Highlighting the broader significance of the development, Naidu said Amaravati represents more than just an administrative centre. “It is a symbol of Telugu pride, identity, and self-respect,” he remarked.

He further revealed that Prime Minister Modi is expected to visit Amaravati again in the near future to inaugurate key projects once construction progresses.

Taking a sharp dig at the Opposition, particularly the YSR Congress Party, Naidu criticised them for boycotting key discussions and failing to support the resolution both in Parliament and the state Assembly.

The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers, women, ministers, and public representatives, who accorded a warm welcome to the Chief Minister and his wife, marking the occasion as a milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s journey forward.
