From Weapons to Skills: Rehabilitation Changing Lives in Kondagaon
Raipur, April 2026: The state government’s rehabilitation policy is transforming the lives of rehabilitated individuals in Kondagaon district. Youth who once strayed onto the path of violence are now returning to the mainstream and moving towards self-reliance through skill development.
As part of this initiative, three individuals from Kudhur village—Tulsi Ram, Rajman, and Gobru—are currently undergoing training in the electrician trade at a rehabilitation centre in the district, facilitated through the Livelihood College.
Tulsi Ram Kashyap shared that earlier, due to an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in the region, he had joined an संगठन (group). However, inspired by the state government’s rehabilitation policy, he chose to surrender and rejoin mainstream society. He is now receiving skill development training at the rehabilitation centre. He explained that the electrician course includes a two-month wiring training programme, of which around 15 days have already been completed. After completing the training, he plans to start his own wiring-related work in his area as a form of self-employment.
Similarly, Rajman and Gobru also decided to surrender and return to the mainstream under the rehabilitation policy. They too are undergoing electrician training and aim to establish self-employment in their villages after completing the course, enabling them to earn a livelihood and support their families.
All three youths expressed satisfaction with the state government’s rehabilitation policy, stating that it has given them a new opportunity to rebuild their lives. They noted that while earlier their environment was filled with fear and instability, they are now in a safe setting, receiving training and feeling hopeful about their future.
It is noteworthy that under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government’s rehabilitation policy is focused on integrating surrendered individuals into the mainstream by providing them with skill development, employment, and livelihood opportunities.
The rehabilitation centre run by the Kondagaon district administration is playing a crucial role in this effort, offering guidance and training to help previously misguided youth reintegrate into society and lead productive lives.
