Modi Vows Justice in R.G. Kar Case, Targets TMC at Panihati Rally

Kolkata, April 2026 : Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that all those involved in the alleged conspiracy behind the R.G. Kar rape and murder case would be identified and punished once a Bharatiya Janata Party government comes to power in West Bengal.

Addressing an election rally in the Panihati Assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas district, Modi said that no individual—regardless of their influence—would escape accountability. The constituency holds emotional significance, as it is home to the ancestral residence of the victim, a young doctor who was murdered at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in August 2024. The BJP has fielded the victim’s mother, Swapna Debnath, as its candidate from the seat.

Invoking the issue of women’s safety, the Prime Minister said the ongoing Assembly elections would mark a turning point. He claimed that women voters in the state would “rewrite history” and hold the ruling All India Trinamool Congress accountable for alleged atrocities against women.

“The people responsible for crimes against women will be brought to justice after the results on May 4,” Modi said, intensifying his attack on the ruling party led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Highlighting the personal struggle of the BJP candidate, Modi said that Swapna Debnath had worked tirelessly to educate her daughter and help her become a doctor. He alleged that her daughter’s life was lost due to what he described as a breakdown of governance in the state. “I assure you that every person linked to this larger conspiracy will be punished,” he added.

The Prime Minister also claimed that the ruling party was unnerved by the high voter turnout in the first phase of polling. He alleged that the Trinamool Congress had become “desperate” and was attempting to incite unrest through criminal elements in response to the electoral trend.

Modi further targeted the state government over employment and investment issues. He said that under the current regime, job opportunities for youth had dwindled and the overall investment climate had deteriorated. “There will be no new investments, and even existing industries may move out if this continues,” he said, accusing the ruling party of damaging the state’s economic prospects over the past decade and a half.

The rally marked a continuation of the BJP’s aggressive campaign in West Bengal, with the Prime Minister focusing on governance, law and order, and economic development as key poll issues. As the state heads into subsequent phases of voting, political rhetoric is expected to intensify further, with both major parties seeking to consolidate support in a closely contested election.
