BJP Targets AAP After Rajya Sabha Exodus, Calls for ‘Self-Introspection’
New Delhi, April 2026 : Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after seven of its Rajya Sabha MPs, including Raghav Chadha, resigned from the party and decided to join the BJP.
Reacting to the development, BJP leaders said the wave of exits by senior members pointed to deep-rooted issues within AAP and urged its leadership to undertake “serious self-introspection.”

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj said the departure of founding members reflected growing dissatisfaction within the party. “This is a moment for AAP leadership to introspect. When another founding member leaves disappointed, it clearly shows the organisation is crumbling,” she told reporters.
Echoing similar sentiments, senior BJP leader Anurag Thakur alleged that corruption within AAP had driven its leaders away. “The party that came to power promising to fight corruption is now itself mired in it. That is why its leaders are leaving one by one,” he said. Thakur also pointed out that several AAP leaders had faced legal troubles, calling it an unprecedented situation in such a short political span.
BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said the exodus indicated that AAP had strayed from its founding principles. “Its leaders have realised that the party has deviated from its core mission. This is a clear signal that its future is in trouble,” he remarked, adding that party chief Arvind Kejriwal could be left politically isolated.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva welcomed the decision of the MPs to join his party and predicted further cracks within AAP, particularly in Punjab. He claimed that dissatisfaction was growing among leaders and the public alike over the governance of the AAP government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
“I believe there will be a major split in Punjab as well. People and leaders are frustrated with the administration,” Sachdeva said.
Meanwhile, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh directly blamed Kejriwal for the party’s internal crisis. “AAP is now trapped in its own web of corruption and misgovernance. This situation is the result of its own politics,” he alleged.
The BJP’s coordinated response highlights its attempt to capitalise on the high-profile defections, which have significantly weakened AAP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha and triggered fresh political turbulence within the party.
