Justice Lisa Gill Takes Oath as First Woman Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court

Andhra Pradesh, April 2026 : Justice Lisa Gill created history on Saturday by becoming the first woman Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan in Amaravati, where S. Abdul Nazeer, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, administered the oath of office.

Ahead of the ceremony, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu paid a courtesy visit to Justice Gill and extended his congratulations on achieving this historic milestone. He conveyed his best wishes, noting the significance of her appointment in strengthening the state’s judicial leadership.

Originally from Chandigarh, Justice Gill brings with her a wealth of legal experience spanning over three decades. After earning her law degree from Punjab University, she began her legal career as an advocate in 1990. Over the years, she built a strong reputation by handling a wide range of civil, criminal, and constitutional matters at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Her consistent dedication and expertise led to her elevation as a judge of the same High Court in March 2014. During her tenure, she was known for her balanced approach and deep understanding of complex legal issues, earning respect across the legal community.
