Naidu to Lay Foundation for $15 Billion Google AI Data Centre in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam, April 2026: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is set to lay the foundation stone for a massive AI data centre project by Google in Visakhapatnam on April 28, marking a transformative step in India’s digital and technology landscape.
According to official sources, the project will see an investment of $15 billion, making it one of the largest Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in India’s history. The state-of-the-art facility will be developed across nearly 600 acres spanning Tharluwada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli regions, with a planned capacity of 1 Gigawatt.
Officials described the project as a landmark initiative that will usher in a new era for both India’s technology sector and Andhra Pradesh’s digital ambitions. Once operational, the data centre is expected to position Visakhapatnam as a major Artificial Intelligence hub in Asia and secure its place among leading global technology destinations.
A key advantage for the project is Visakhapatnam’s strategic coastal location, which makes it ideal for submarine cable landing stations. With upcoming subsea cable connectivity, the city will soon establish direct digital links with several countries, significantly boosting its global connectivity. The facility will offer large-scale data storage along with advanced AI-driven cloud infrastructure.
The project is being developed in collaboration with major players such as AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra, reflecting a strong public-private partnership model. The state government’s broader vision is to develop a multi-gigawatt digital ecosystem, targeting a total capacity of 6.5 Gigawatts across Andhra Pradesh.
Beyond infrastructure, the data centre is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities. Thousands of jobs are likely to be created in fields such as Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data science, and IT operations. Additionally, the project is expected to stimulate economic growth by generating significant revenue for the state.
The development is also likely to attract investments in allied sectors, including power supply systems, cooling technologies, server manufacturing, and networking solutions. This, in turn, will help build a robust AI ecosystem in the region.
Experts believe that the presence of Google’s AI cloud services will encourage AI-driven companies, IT startups, research institutions, and semiconductor firms to establish operations in Visakhapatnam, further strengthening its position as a technology hub.
The state government is also focusing on ensuring sustainable growth by arranging green energy solutions to power the data centres. Infrastructure projects such as the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport are expected to further enhance the city’s global appeal.
With global tech giants turning their attention to Visakhapatnam, the project is poised to redefine the city’s identity, transforming it into a key digital gateway for Asia and a cornerstone of India’s technological future.
