Maharashtra Police Must Be Prepared to Tackle Emerging Crimes: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai, April 2026 : Devendra Fadnavis on Monday emphasised the need for the Maharashtra Police to adapt to the challenges of evolving crimes, particularly in areas such as cyber and financial offences, and work with greater preparedness and efficiency.
He was speaking at the closing and prize distribution ceremony of the 36th Maharashtra State Police Sports Meet 2026, held at the Armed Police Headquarters ground in Kalina, Mumbai. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Cultural Affairs and IT Minister Ashish Shelar, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister of State for Home (Rural) Dr. Pankaj Bhoir, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Manisha Patankar-Mhaiskar, Director General of Police Sadanand Date, and Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, along with senior police officials.
Fadnavis highlighted that the Maharashtra Police is among the most professional and capable forces in the country, playing a vital role in maintaining law and order. He noted that the force’s contribution is equally important in supporting the state’s industrial and economic growth.
Acknowledging the demanding nature of police duties, the Chief Minister said that sporting events such as the State Police Games help improve physical fitness, enhance skills, and foster team spirit among personnel. He also praised the consistent performance of Maharashtra Police teams at national-level competitions.
Commending the organisers, particularly the Mumbai Police, Fadnavis appreciated the successful conduct of the event despite challenging weather conditions. He stressed that sportsmanship matters more than winning or losing and extended his best wishes to all participating athletes.
In the competition, the host Mumbai team emerged as the overall champion in both the men’s and women’s categories. The Chief Minister congratulated all winners, runners-up, and participants who delivered notable performances in individual and team events, presenting them with mementoes.
Special recognition was given to Nikita Sandeep Khatal from Pune City for setting a new record in the women’s 100-metre race, and Chaitanya Santosh Marde from the Kolhapur range for achieving a record in the men’s 100-metre event.
The awards were presented by the Chief Minister and other dignitaries during the ceremony. The event began with an impressive parade by athletes representing various police ranges across the state, accompanied by a musical performance from the police band.
Additional Director General of Police Madhukar Pandey delivered the welcome address, while DGP Sadanand Date shared his remarks. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti.
