Sindhi Community Has Made Valuable Contributions in Every Field: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Ownership Rights Certificates Distributed to Members of the Sindhi Community
Nagpur, May 2026: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday praised the Sindhi community for its remarkable contribution to the nation’s development, stating that despite arriving in India as refugees after Partition and starting life from scratch, the community today holds a leading position in trade and several other sectors.
He was addressing a programme organised by the Vidarbha Sindhi Vikas Parishad at the Mahatma Gandhi High School premises in Jaripatka, Nagpur, where ownership rights certificates were distributed to members of the Sindhi community. Civic representatives from the community were also felicitated during the event.
Among those present on the occasion were Bhagwandas Savanani, MLA Kumar Ailani, Amravati Mayor Shrichand Tejwani, District Collector Kumar Ashirwad, National Patron of the Bharatiya Sindhu Sabha Ghanshyam Kukreja, Sindhi Vikas Parishad President Dr. Vinky Rughwani, organiser Virendra Kukreja, and secretary P.T. Dara.
A total of 36 corporators from the community were honoured during the programme, including 12 newly elected corporators who were felicitated symbolically by the Chief Minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that after the Partition of India, the Sindhi community had to leave behind their homes, agricultural lands, and businesses in the newly formed Pakistan and migrate to India under extremely difficult circumstances.
He noted that many members of the community spent years living in refugee camps, yet they transformed their suffering into strength and struggle into opportunity. Today, he said, the Sindhi community has emerged as a leading force across various sectors and continues to play a vital role in the nation’s progress.
The Chief Minister further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a nationwide initiative was undertaken to grant citizenship rights to Sindhi refugees and displaced families.
He explained that many lands where Sindhi families had been residing for decades were technically classified as encroachments, resulting in a long-standing demand from the community for legal ownership rights.
Fadnavis said that once his government got the opportunity, it worked towards resolving the issue and took a decision to grant Class-1 ownership rights certificates with full ownership to Sindhi residents.
“As a result, a clear path has now been created for a large number of Sindhi families to receive legal ownership rights over their properties,” he said.
The Chief Minister assured that the implementation of the decision would continue at a fast pace in the coming period. He also announced that a separate framework would be developed for the regularisation of properties belonging to Sindhi families residing in Ulhasnagar.
Earlier, Dr. Vinky Rughwani delivered the introductory address, while Vicky Kukreja also shared his views during the programme.
Ownership Certificates Distributed to 350 Sindhi Families
Following the Partition of India, Sindhi refugees who migrated from West Pakistan were rehabilitated in areas such as Khamla, Mekosabagh, and Jaripatka in Nagpur district. These settlements were officially recognised as displaced persons’ colonies.
For the past 70 to 75 years, many Sindhi families have been residing in these areas and have significantly contributed to Nagpur’s economic, social, and commercial growth.
During the programme, ownership rights certificates were distributed to 350 Sindhi families. Symbolically, 12 beneficiaries received their certificates directly from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
