Women’s Growing Role in Legal Sector Bolsters Judiciary – Deputy CM Fadnavis

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar : Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asserted today that the increasing participation of women in the field of law and justice is a positive development, reflecting the growing strength of the Indian judicial system.

Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis was speaking at the inauguration of the girls’ hostel at Maharashtra National Law University. Present at the event were Bombay High Court Justice Mangesh Patil, Justice Ravindra Ghuge, Maharashtra Advocate General Dr. Birendra Saraf, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. A. Laxminath, Registrar Prof. Dhanaji Jadhav, Mr. Dr. Bhagwat Karad, and several other eminent judges, legal experts, and students from the law university.

In his address, Mr. Fadnavis expressed satisfaction that all three law universities in Maharashtra were established and became operational during his tenure. He acknowledged the significant contributions of Supreme Court and High Court judges in the establishment of these universities, noting that they continue to closely monitor their progress, which ensures effective functioning.

Mr. Fadnavis also highlighted that investors are eager to invest in India due to the country’s robust judicial system, which provides confidence that legal processes will be properly followed. This, he said, is helping India move toward becoming one of the world’s leading economies. He further emphasized the importance of updating laws inherited from the British colonial period to strengthen public trust in the justice system. While some anti-social elements may seek to create instability, Mr. Fadnavis stressed that the Indian Constitution provides the answers to such challenges, with laws that are sufficient to curb these negative forces.

He also remarked on the role of technology in modernizing the legal field, noting that efforts are being made to make the justice process more technology-friendly and accessible to the public. The increasing participation of women in law and justice, he added, is another encouraging sign, reinforcing the strength of the judiciary. Mr. Fadnavis congratulated the students on the availability of the new girls’ hostel and urged them to maintain discipline and pursue knowledge in the legal field.

The event also featured remarks from Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Laxminath, Justice Ravindra Ghuge, and Advocate General Dr. Birendra Saraf, who shared their thoughts on the university’s structure and progress. Registrar Dhanaji Jadhav delivered the vote of thanks.
