Over 2 Lakh Hectares Affected by Heavy Rains in Nanded District; Guardian Minister Reviews Flood Situation

Nanded : Nanded district has experienced heavy rainfall over the last 48 hours, with 45 out of 93 mandals in the district receiving significant rainfall on Sunday. On Saturday, heavy rains affected 26 mandals. District Collector Abhijit Raut reported extensive damage to agriculture, with preliminary estimates indicating that more than two lakh hectares of cultivated land have been affected.

One Person Swept Away

In Nanded taluka, water began overflowing the Pasdgaon bridge around 4 p.m. Despite repeated warnings from the administration, a person attempting to cross the bridge was swept away by the water. Search efforts to locate the individual are ongoing.

25 People Rescued

Approximately 25 people were trapped in the area of the Kayadhu river near Unchada village. A team from the State Disaster Response Force, dispatched by the District Disaster Management Authority at the Collectorate in Nanded, successfully rescued all 25 individuals through search and rescue operations.

25 Animals Dead

The heavy rains have also resulted in the deaths of 25 animals, and several houses have sustained damage. The district collector stated that if the rains subside by tomorrow, a damage assessment will begin.

Godavari River Alert

The danger level of the Godavari river in Nanded city is set at 354 meters, with the water level recorded at 352.75 meters as of 8 p.m. An alert has been issued in the area, and rescue teams have been deployed. Residents are advised to remain calm and stay in communication with the administration.

Nanded and Ardhapur Receive the Highest Rainfall

Today, Nanded city, Ardhapur, Hadgaon, Degalur, Mukhed, Kandahar, Loha, and Naigaon received heavy rainfall. Ardhapur taluka experienced the most significant rainfall, with 170 millimeters recorded in 12 hours. Both Nanded North and South areas received an average of 125 millimeters of rain. This led to significant water accumulation in low-lying areas, causing flooding in various parts of Nanded city. Water entered several settlements along the Godavari river. In Vasrani Panchvatinagar, water levels reached the second floor of a building near Saibaba Kaman, and two people trapped inside were safely rescued.

A total of 28 houses in the district have been partially damaged by the rain, and water has entered many homes in low-lying areas. Several villages were cut off due to flooding in the afternoon.

Dams Experience Significant Inflows

On September 2, the Upper Penganga Project-Isapur Dam in Nanded district received a large inflow of water, although the dam gates have not yet been opened. Fourteen gates of the Shankarao Chavan Vishnupari Project in Nanded were opened.

The Upper Manar Limboti Dam has opened 9 out of 15 gates, while the Lower Manar Barul Dam, with automatic gates, continues to discharge water as usual. A total of 14 gates of the Balegaon High-Level Barrage are open, and all 16 gates of the Amadura High-Level Barrage are open. Additionally, all 14 gates of the Bhabli High-Level Barrage and 14 gates of the Digras Dam are open. All dams on the Godavari river, from Jayakwadi to Bhabli, are currently discharging water.

Review by the Guardian Minister

Rural Development Minister and Guardian Minister of the district, Girish Mahajan, contacted the Collector and other key officials in the afternoon to review the flood situation in the district. He issued instructions to begin damage assessments as soon as possible.
