Cow Dung-based technologies will give new direction to the rural economy

Deliberations held on agriculture, energy, rural economy, natural farming and employment generation through cow dung-based scientific technologies

Detailed discussion held in a special hybrid meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Go Seva Commission

Lucknow, May 2026 : A special hybrid meeting on refined organic manure, bio-pesticides and biogas energy based on cow dung technology was organized on Tuesday. The meeting witnessed detailed discussions on new dimensions in agriculture, energy, rural economy, natural farming and employment generation through cow dung-based scientific technologies.

The chief guest at the meeting, Dr Sapna Poti, Director, Strategic Alliances Division, New Delhi, stated that ‘Manthan’ is a digital platform that provides an open forum for innovators across the country, where various technologies and innovations can be shared to develop solutions on a broader scale.

She also provided information about the ‘Amrit’ platform, describing it as a national platform where the needs and problems of villages are first documented, after which the Government of India selects technologies according to those identified needs. She informed that various ministries and states across the country have been connected through this platform so that integrated and effective solutions can be provided for rural areas.

Dr Sapna Poti further stated that RSVCs (Rural Smart Village Centres) are being launched at the national level with the objective of developing villages into smart and self-reliant models. The initiative has already been started in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Karnataka. Under this model, the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) and other government schemes will be integrated to provide new momentum to rural development. She also mentioned that several solutions are available in the field of cow shelter-based technologies, many of which have already been tested and validated.

On this occasion, Kavita Tiwari (Program Specialist, Strategic Alliances Division, Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, New Delhi) shared her important suggestions regarding various models and possibilities related to cow dung-based products and rural livelihoods.

The presence of Dr S. P. Verma at the meeting was noteworthy. He informed that with the support of Anurag Sharma, a cow dung-based bio-stimulant manufacturing plant has been established at Devipura Gaushala in Pilibhit district, through which the gaushala is also generating revenue.

In addition, green fodder is being produced through hydroponic technology for cattle nutrition, which is emerging as a practical and sustainable model for gaushala.

During the meeting, P. S. Ojha and other experts and participants strongly emphasized that cow dung should not be viewed merely as a traditional resource, but should instead be linked with rural prosperity, natural farming, organic production, technological innovation and the concept of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

It was unanimously agreed during the meeting that the effective use of cow dung-based technologies will not only provide a new direction to cow protection, but will also play an important role in making villages self-reliant, employment-oriented, environment-friendly and economically empowered.

The meeting was chaired by Shyam Bihari Gupta, Chairman, Uttar Pradesh Go Seva Commission. Rajesh Singh Sengar and Ramakant Upadhyay, members of the Uttar Pradesh Go Seva Commission, were also present in the meeting.
