Strict Action Must Be Taken Against Those Responsible for Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad Toxic Liquor Case: Deputy CM Sunetra Ajit Pawar
Mumbai, May 2026 : Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar has described the deaths of 12 citizens after consuming toxic liquor in Pune’s Hadapsar area and the Dapodi–Phugewadi region of Pimpri-Chinchwad as extremely unfortunate, and has stated that those responsible will not be spared.
She has also directed the administration to conduct a thorough investigation by going to the root of the matter.
Taking serious cognisance of the incident, Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar contacted the Pune Police Commissioner, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner, officials from the State Excise Department, and local administration. She instructed them to investigate the case in depth and take strict action against all individuals involved in illegal activities linked to the tragedy.
So far, eight people have been arrested in connection with the case. A joint investigation is currently underway by the police and the excise department to determine the source of the toxic liquor and identify all those involved in its supply and distribution.
The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that there will be zero tolerance towards such illegal activities that endanger public life and assured that the investigation will be pursued with full seriousness to ensure justice for the victims.
