Environmental Conservation is Integral to Our Way of Life: CM Dr. Yadav

Bhopal, June 2026 : Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the fundamental concept of environmental conservation is deeply embedded in Indian Sanatan culture. He stated that every element of nature plays an essential role in preserving the universe, which is composed of the five elements, and that their significance is reflected in the country’s traditions, rituals, food habits and devotional practices. In Sanatan culture, a single tree is considered equivalent to ten sons. The Chief Minister said that environmental conservation is an integral part of our way of life.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav emphasised that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the State Government is working with full commitment towards environmental protection. Through the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan, dedicated efforts are underway across Madhya Pradesh to conserve rivers, wells, stepwells, and ponds. He was addressing the State-level launch ceremony of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’ campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day. Minister of State for Forest and Environment Shri Dilip Ahirwar and Additional Chief Secretary, Forest and Environment, Shri Ashok Barnwal were also present.

State-Level Environmental Awards Presented

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp at Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre. He planted saplings of Swarn Champa, Sita Ashok, Ramphal and Amla in the convention centre. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav presented 11 State-level Environmental Awards across eight categories for the year 2024-25. The awards were conferred upon industrial units, educational institutions, social organisations and individuals for outstanding contributions in the fields of environmental conservation, pollution control, and sustainable development.

Documentation of 500 Stepwells from 16 Districts Released

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav released five course modules related to the Circular Economy and documentation records of 500 stepwells from 16 districts prepared under the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan being implemented by EPCO and INTACH in the state. He also visited an exhibition showcasing notable initiatives in environmental conservation, circular economy, and water conservation.

Prime Minister Shri Modi Set to Become the Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav stated that the 13th year of good governance under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has commenced. He said that Prime Minister Shri Modi is set to become the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India and will establish a historic record as a continuously elected Prime Minister. The Chief Minister remarked that the office of the Prime Minister has been honoured by Shri Modi’s leadership and that the nation has benefited from his vision and dedication. Chief Minister Dr Yadav, recalling former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji,  noted that Late Vajpayee Ji successfully led a coalition government of 24 parties and introduced transformative initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. His aspiration for a stable majority government was fulfilled in 2014.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that India has become stronger by advancing on the path of good governance and development rooted in heritage. He added that the country is now moving towards freedom from terrorism and Naxalism, while Indian talent continues to excel globally in fields such as space science, technology, and sports. The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Shri Modi has consistently encouraged athletes and scientists under all circumstances.

India Emerging Stronger from the Global Energy Crisis

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that climatic factors such as El Niño and instability in West Asia have contributed to an energy crisis worldwide, affecting the availability and prices of petroleum products and gas. He said that under the capable leadership of Prime Minister Shri Modi, India is emerging from this challenge with strength and resilience.

Bhopal Gas Tragedy Was the Biggest Example of Environmental Negligence

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav described the Bhopal Gas Tragedy as one of the most devastating incidents causing harm to people and the environment. He said that after four decades, the State Government successfully disposed of the hazardous waste lying at the Union Carbide factory, thereby removing a long-standing blot associated with the tragedy. The Government is now moving ahead with the proper management and redevelopment of the Union Carbide site.

Major Initiatives Underway to Promote Clean and Green Energy

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that several key initiatives are being undertaken in Madhya Pradesh to promote clean and green energy. Rapid progress is being made in solar, wind, biomass, and hydropower projects. Large-scale green energy projects are also being developed at Sanchi, Khajuraho, and other locations across the state.

Madhya Pradesh Setting an Example in Wildlife Conservation and Coexistence

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav reiterated the State Government’s commitment to environmental and wildlife conservation. He noted that, in addition to the successful rehabilitation of cheetahs, wild buffaloes have also been brought from Assam. Madhya Pradesh, he said, is setting a benchmark in wildlife conservation while promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.

Hamidia Hospital Among Award Recipients

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav presented awards to Visag Bio Fuel Private Limited, Barasivni (Balaghat); RCCPL Cement, Maihar; TAFE Motors and Tractors Limited, Mandideep (Raisen); Ramrama Manganese Mines, Barasivni (Balaghat); Kesar Agrotech, Barasivni (Balaghat); Municipal Council Seoni Malwa; Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal; Vijesh Lunawat Smriti Foundation, Bhopal; Acropolis Institute of Technology and Research, Indore; and DAV Public School, Surya Vihar, Singrauli for their outstanding work in pollution control and environmental conservation. He said that these recognitions would inspire other industrial units and institutions across the state to adopt best practices in pollution control and environmental protection.

‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign Sets New Benchmarks in Public Participation

Minister of State Shri Dilip Ahirwar said that protecting air, water, and trees is essential for environmental conservation. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign has achieved remarkable success and established new benchmarks in public participation. Additional Chief Secretary Shri Ashok Barnwal noted that Prime Minister Shri Modi’s call for “Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE)” has gained global recognition and that Mission LiFE of the Government of India is making a significant contribution towards environmental protection.

Fulfil Our Responsibility Towards Nature

Shri Ahirwar urged citizens to conserve natural resources and energy while fulfilling their responsibility towards nature. He informed that the Pollution Control Board has fixed a 30-day timeline for granting approvals to industrial units. Three continuous monitoring systems are operational in the state to track pollution levels. The Pollution Control Board and EPCO have also installed Air Quality Index display boards in cities to raise public awareness and encourage greater participation in environmental conservation efforts.

Bhopal Mayor Smt. Malti Rai, MLA Shri Bhagwan Das Sabnani, Fair Authority Chairman Shri Vinod Gotiya, Municipal Corporation Chairman Shri Kishan Suryavanshi, District President Shri Ravindra Yati, along with public representatives, environmentalists, nature conservationists, representatives of voluntary organisations, students and departmental officials, were present at the programme.
