India Reiterates Advisory, Urges Citizens to Avoid Travel to Iran Amid Rising Regional Tensions
Tehran, June 2026 : India on Monday renewed its travel advisory for Iran, urging Indian citizens to avoid visiting the country and advising those already in Iran to leave through available transportation routes as tensions continue to escalate across West Asia.
In a statement posted by the Indian Embassy in Tehran on social media, Indian nationals were strongly advised against undertaking any travel to Iran in view of the rapidly evolving security situation in the region. The Embassy also urged Indians currently residing in or visiting Iran to make arrangements to depart the country using available means of transport.
The advisory comes amid heightened instability following a fresh round of military exchanges involving Iran and Israel, raising concerns about a wider regional escalation.
The latest developments saw the Israeli military announce that it had carried out strikes on multiple targets within the petrochemical complex located in Iran’s Mahshahr region. Israeli authorities also reported that all missiles launched by Iran towards Israeli territory on Monday morning were successfully intercepted by the country’s air defence systems.
According to Israeli military officials, an object that landed in an open area of the West Bank was likely debris from an intercepted missile. Air raid alerts that had been activated in and around Jerusalem were later lifted after authorities determined that the immediate threat had passed.
The renewed tensions follow a series of warnings issued by senior Iranian military officials. On Sunday, Ali Abdollahi, Chief Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, cautioned that Israel would face severe consequences if it expanded military operations in southern Lebanon or Beirut’s Dahieh district, or responded militarily to recent Iranian actions.
In remarks carried by Iranian media, Abdollahi asserted that Israel must halt its operations in Lebanon, warning that any further escalation could trigger what he described as “devastating” attacks against Israel and its allies. He also accused Israel of intensifying military operations against Lebanese civilians and alleged that prohibited weapons were being used in the conflict.
The commander claimed that Israeli actions had crossed multiple red lines despite repeated warnings from Tehran, increasing the risk of a broader confrontation.
The current regional crisis traces its origins to the conflict that erupted following large-scale US-Israeli military strikes on Iran on February 28. The attacks reportedly resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian leaders and military commanders, prompting Iran to launch retaliatory missile and drone strikes targeting American and Israeli interests across the region.
Although a ceasefire involving Iran, Israel and the United States came into effect on April 8, tensions have remained high. In recent weeks, diplomatic efforts have continued, with reports indicating that Washington and Tehran have exchanged multiple proposals aimed at establishing a framework for lasting peace and formally ending hostilities.
Against this uncertain backdrop, India’s latest advisory reflects growing concerns over the security environment in Iran and the wider West Asian region, with authorities closely monitoring developments and urging citizens to exercise maximum caution.
