CM Yogi’s long-cherished dream comes true with the establishment of the Sainik School

Gorakhpur : The vision of patriotism and national pride that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath nurtured during his tenure as an MP has been fully realized with the establishment of the Sainik School in Gorakhpur. It is the first Sainik School in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the second to be run by the Uttar Pradesh Sainik School Society.

Set on a 49-acre campus within the premises of the fertilizer factory, this Rs 176-crore institution marks a new chapter in the city’s achievements. The Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, will formally inaugurate the school on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with CM Yogi Adityanath hosting the event. Extensive preparations have been made under the Chief Minister’s supervision to welcome the Vice President.

This Sainik School has been a flagship project of CM Yogi, whose foundation stone was laid on 23 July 2021. Built with the mission of “Yuvaaon ko Siksha, Desh ki Raksha” the school offers residential education for boys and girls from classes 6 to 12.

The first batch of 84 boys and 40 girls admitted to classes 6 and 9 through an entrance examination, began their studies on 1 July. The campus is divided into separate areas for boys and girls, with an administrative building that reflects ancient Indian culture and tradition.

Additionally, several sports courts and grounds have been developed to support the students’ physical education.

The Sainik School in Gorakhpur holds special significance for CM Yogi Adityanath. Even after laying the foundation stone, he made several visits to personally inspect the progress of its construction. By establishing this institution, he has created a strong platform for the talented students of Eastern Uttar Pradesh to pursue careers in the armed forces. The school will also contribute to regional balance by offering increased opportunities for military service in this part of the state.

The primary objective of the Sainik School is to prepare students for the National Defense Academy (NDA) and selection as officers in the Indian Armed Forces by fostering holistic development. Unlike traditional schools, the selection process for admission here is rigorous, including a thorough assessment of intellectual, physical, mental, and medical abilities. This ensures that only the most capable students are admitted. The entire curriculum is designed to align with military-oriented education, with a timetable that mirrors army training routines.

This is the second Sainik School established under the UP Sainik School Society. It features 20 classrooms, 4 laboratories, a hostel, dining hall, multipurpose hall, conference hall, a 1,014-seat auditorium, yoga center, indoor shooting range, swimming pool, and CSD canteen.

The admitted students are divided into four houses, named after national heroes: Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Pandit Ramprasad Bismil, Shaheed Bandhu Singh, and Rani Laxmibai. Students are provided with meals at Annapurna Bhawan. The campus is equipped with basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, and badminton courts for sports activities.

In the 1980s and 90s, Gorakhpur was notorious as a hub of crime. However, since Yogi Adityanath assumed office as Chief Minister, the city’s reputation has been transformed through remarkable progress in development, health, education, and industry.

Today, Gorakhpur is recognized as a growth model, with the establishment of the Sainik School as a key achievement. A Sainik School in any region is a significant milestone. CM Yogi envisions it as a cradle of national defense, grooming students to become future officers in the armed forces and defenders of the nation’s borders.

Establishing the Sainik School is a special gift for young students and a source of pride for Gorakhpur, enhancing the city’s identity. CM Yogi aims for the school to be an exceptional platform for instilling patriotism, dedication, and leadership in the youth. It is envisioned to foster students’ physical, mental, and moral development, becoming a symbol of pride for all of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
