Trump Warns Communism Poses America’s Greatest Internal Threat

Ankara, July 2026 : US President Donald Trump on Wednesday described the spread of communist ideology as the greatest long-term threat facing the United States, arguing that it poses a more serious internal challenge than the country faced during the two World Wars or even the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Speaking at a press conference following the NATO Summit in Ankara, Trump said communist ideas continue to gain traction under different political labels, making them more difficult to identify while remaining equally dangerous. He warned that such ideologies promise economic security and social equality but ultimately result in poverty, repression and loss of freedom.

“Communism is a disaster. It’s been proven over thousands of years under different names,” Trump said, stressing that history had repeatedly demonstrated the failures of communist systems.

Responding to a question about his frequent criticism of communism, Trump said he has increasingly taken the message to audiences beyond the United States through public appearances and social media platforms.

“I talk about it everywhere. I talk about it on TikTok, I talk about it here, and you’re right, it has become international,” he remarked.

Trump argued that communist and socialist ideologies are often presented in an appealing manner by promising benefits and government support. However, he claimed such systems inevitably lead to economic decline and political oppression.

“Communism is easy to sell. I would be the greatest communist in history. I’d be right up there with Lenin,” Trump said sarcastically. “They tell you you’ll have free rent for the rest of your life. What they don’t say is that you’ll be living in squalor within 12 months.”

The President also pointed to the support he has received from Hispanic voters, saying many immigrants and their families have firsthand experience of authoritarian socialist or communist governments in their countries of origin.

“One of the reasons I do so well with Hispanic people is because many of them came from countries that were essentially communist,” he said. Trump added that while some political movements describe themselves as “social democrats” or “radical socialists,” he believes the underlying ideology remains equally dangerous.

He went on to criticise political opponents whom he accused of promoting policies rooted in communist thinking, claiming such ideas represent a significant threat to America’s future.

According to Trump, the ideological battle confronting the United States today is more consequential than many of the nation’s greatest historical crises.

“I think this country is in more danger than it was during World War One or World War Two,” he said. Referring to the September 11 attacks and the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Trump acknowledged those were major security threats but insisted that the possibility of America embracing communism posed an even greater long-term risk.

“One thing that happens when you go communist—you never come back,” he warned.

Trump concluded by arguing that communist systems ultimately leave citizens impoverished and without freedom, describing their long-term consequences as “very evil and very nasty.”

The remarks came as the President highlighted what he described as the strong performance of the US economy under his administration, asserting that free-market capitalism remains the cornerstone of American prosperity. Throughout his presidency, Trump has increasingly framed domestic political debates as a contest between capitalism and socialism, positioning economic freedom as central to the nation’s future.
