US Mint to Issue New $1 Coin Featuring Donald Trump for America’s 250th Independence Anniversary

Washington, July 2026 : The United States Mint will introduce a new $1 commemorative coin featuring President Donald Trump as part of the nationwide celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Wednesday.

The commemorative coin has been designed to honour the nation’s historic milestone and symbolise America’s enduring commitment to liberty, patriotism and national unity.

According to Bessent, the obverse of the coin features a portrait of President Donald Trump. Above the portrait is the word “Liberty”, while the years 1776–2026 are engraved below to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The national motto “In God We Trust” appears beside Trump’s image, with two stars positioned on either side of the portrait.

The reverse side of the coin displays a detailed image of a bald eagle with its wings spread wide. The eagle holds an olive branch in one talon, representing peace, and a bundle of arrows in the other, symbolising strength and national defence. At the centre of the design is a shield bearing the number 250, highlighting the historic anniversary.

The inscriptions “United States of America” and “One Dollar” are engraved around the edge of the reverse side, while the Latin motto “E Pluribus Unum”—meaning “Out of many, one”—appears above the eagle, reflecting the nation’s unity despite its diversity.

Announcing the initiative on social media, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the coin as a tribute to America’s legacy of freedom.

“As America commemorates 250 years of independence, the US Mint will begin striking this new $1 coin to honour the enduring legacy of liberty and a lasting symbol of patriotism,” Bessent wrote.

He added that the design, featuring President Trump, celebrates “the strength of American values and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all.”

However, the Treasury Department has not yet announced the official release date of the commemorative coin. Authorities have also not disclosed how many coins will be produced or whether they will enter general circulation or be offered exclusively as collector’s editions.

Details regarding the coin’s metal composition, including whether it will contain gold or other precious metals, have also not been released.

The commemorative coin is part of a broader programme by the US Mint to mark America’s Semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding. Earlier this month, the Mint unveiled the Freedom Ringing – Liberty Bell Gold Coins and Silver Medal, featuring a distinctive Liberty Bell-shaped design. The collection includes a one-ounce gold coin, a half-ounce gold coin and a half-ounce silver medal, making them among the first non-round commemorative coins and medals produced in recent US history.

The latest Trump-themed $1 coin is expected to become one of the centrepieces of the United States’ year-long celebrations leading up to the country’s historic 250th Independence Day in 2026.
