Trainee IPS Officer Attempts Suicide Amid Harassment Case, Claims Relationship in Purported Note

Hyderabad, July 2026 : A trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad allegedly attempted suicide on Monday after a fellow woman trainee officer accused him of sexual harassment. The officer, identified as Uday Krishna Reddy, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.

According to police, Reddy allegedly consumed a poisonous substance at his relative’s residence in Moti Nagar shortly after a criminal case was registered against him based on a complaint filed by a woman trainee officer. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital in the SR Nagar area for treatment.

The incident took a dramatic turn after a purported handwritten suicide note surfaced, in which Reddy claimed that he and the complainant had been in a consensual relationship for nearly a year. In the note, he named four individuals, including the woman trainee officer and her husband, alleging that they were responsible for driving him to take the extreme step.

Reddy claimed that their relationship began in June 2025 and continued even after the woman got married. He alleged that they remained emotionally and physically involved and asserted that the accusations against him were fabricated.

The note further claimed that the woman had visited his room on multiple occasions and that on July 9, 2026, she allegedly hugged and kissed him without his consent. Reddy stated that he had recorded the incident as evidence and later shared the video with her husband after previously warning her not to visit his room.

He accused the woman of manipulating the sequence of events and falsely portraying him as the aggressor. He also named two of her friends, alleging that they encouraged her actions without knowing the complete facts. Reddy claimed that evidence supporting his version of events was stored on his mobile phone and sought action against all four individuals.

Before the alleged suicide attempt, Reddy had posted a message on social media describing the allegations and rumours against him as “baseless” and “completely false.” Following the registration of the police case, he reportedly left the academy and went to his relative’s residence.

The criminal case against Reddy was registered on Sunday after the woman trainee officer lodged a detailed complaint with Attapur police. In her complaint, the 30-year-old officer alleged that Reddy subjected her to harassment between June 23 and July 10 while both were undergoing training at the National Police Academy.

She accused him of sending abusive messages, criminally intimidating her, recording a private video without consent and forwarding it to her husband. She further alleged that he forcibly took possession of her mobile phone, compelled her to reveal its password, accessed her personal conversations and blackmailed her using private information.

Based on her complaint, Attapur police registered a case under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to criminal force against a woman, sexual harassment, voyeurism, stalking, insulting the modesty of a woman, wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. Sections 66E (violation of privacy) and 67A (transmission of sexually explicit material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act have also been invoked.

Police have begun investigating both the woman’s allegations and the claims made in the purported suicide note. Officials are expected to examine digital evidence, including mobile phones and electronic communications, as part of the investigation.

Uday Krishna Reddy hails from Ullapalem village in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district. His journey to the IPS has been widely noted for its perseverance. He joined the police department as a constable in 2013 before resigning in 2018 to prepare full-time for the Civil Services Examination.

After several attempts, he first secured an All India Rank of 780 and joined the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS). Determined to pursue his dream of becoming an IPS officer, he appeared for the examination again and secured All India Rank 350, earning a place in the Indian Police Service.

The case has generated significant attention within law enforcement circles, with investigators expected to determine the authenticity of the purported suicide note and examine all available evidence before reaching any conclusions. The police have not made any official statement regarding the veracity of the claims made by either side, and the investigation remains ongoing.
