Opposition Vows to Intensify NEET Paper Leak Protest, Demands Education Minister’s Resignation and Parliamentary Debate

New Delhi, July 2026 : Opposition parties on Wednesday stepped up pressure on the Centre over the alleged NEET paper leak, declaring that their nationwide agitation would continue unless the government accepted an adjournment motion in Parliament to facilitate a detailed discussion on the issue. The Opposition also reiterated its demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accusing the government of failing to safeguard the future of millions of students.

Addressing reporters outside Parliament, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said the movement would continue until the concerns of students and youth were addressed. He maintained that the immediate priority was the resignation of the Education Minister, followed by action to resolve the grievances of students and accountability for the treatment meted out to protesters during recent demonstrations.

Yadav argued that examination paper leaks have become a recurring problem across the country and are no longer confined to a single competitive examination. He claimed that more than 150 examination paper leaks had occurred nationwide over the years, with over 20 such incidents reported in Uttar Pradesh alone. Alongside examination irregularities, he also highlighted the lack of employment opportunities for young people, saying both issues have created deep frustration among the country’s youth.

Congress General Secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged that the country’s education system had collapsed and questioned the government’s commitment to democratic values. She said the Opposition’s protests were not about political leaders but about standing with students whose futures had been jeopardised by repeated examination controversies.

According to Priyanka Gandhi, parents, students and teachers across the country are deeply concerned about the integrity of the education system. She said the issue deserved a comprehensive debate in Parliament, arguing that if lengthy discussions could be held on other legislative matters, there was no reason why Parliament could not devote adequate time to debating an issue affecting lakhs of students.

Congress MP K.C. Venugopal also criticised the government, demanding that all scheduled business in the Lok Sabha be suspended to allow an adjournment motion exclusively on the NEET paper leak issue. He said the Opposition had conveyed its demand to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and hoped the government would demonstrate sensitivity by agreeing to the discussion.

Venugopal warned that if the government rejected the adjournment motion, the Opposition would intensify its protests both inside and outside Parliament. He listed the Opposition’s key demands, including the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, a full parliamentary debate on the examination controversy, withdrawal of criminal cases registered against protesting students, and an independent inquiry into the alleged police action against demonstrators.

The controversy has united several INDIA bloc parties, with the Trinamool Congress extending full support to the Congress-led campaign. Senior Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy backed Rahul Gandhi’s protest over the issue and demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged NEET paper leak. He also supported the demand for the Education Minister’s resignation, stating that accountability was essential to restore public confidence in the examination system.

Trinamool Congress MP Kirti Azad echoed similar sentiments, emphasising that despite political differences among opposition parties, they were united on issues affecting students. He said the future of India’s youth should rise above partisan politics and called for collective efforts to ensure transparency and fairness in competitive examinations.

The continued protests have further intensified the political confrontation between the government and the Opposition during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. With repeated disruptions in both Houses and no consensus yet on holding a dedicated debate, the NEET paper leak issue is expected to remain at the centre of parliamentary proceedings and political discourse in the days ahead.
