Amitabh Bachchan Returns to Host ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 18’, Shooting Begins August 1

Mumbai, July 2026 : Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan is set to return as the host of the much-loved quiz-based reality show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” (KBC) as the iconic programme gears up for its 18th season. The veteran actor will begin shooting for the new season from August 1 on a specially designed set at Mumbai’s Film City.

Over the years, Bachchan has become synonymous with the show, captivating audiences with his distinctive hosting style, warmth and engaging interactions with contestants. His return is expected to add to the excitement surrounding the latest edition of one of Indian television’s longest-running and most popular reality shows.

This season introduces a thought-provoking new theme, “Is Baar… Sochna Padega”, encouraging contestants to think carefully before answering questions. The concept aims to highlight that success often comes from patience, thoughtful analysis and informed decision-making rather than impulsive responses.

To unveil the new theme, Sony Entertainment Television recently released a promotional video featuring Amitabh Bachchan at a scenic golf course. Using golf as a metaphor for life, the actor explains that the first answer is not always the correct one and that taking a moment to reflect can often lead to better decisions.

In the promo, Bachchan says, “Bachpan mein humein sikhaya gaya tha ki jo pehle jawab de, sabse sahi wahi hai. Lekin zindagi mein kai baar, pehla jawab hi sahi nahi hota. Toh is baar KBC mein, jawab dene se pehle khud ko zara rokna padega. Nahi samjhe? Is baar… sochna padega.”

Translated into English, he explains that while people are often taught from childhood that the first person to answer is usually right, life frequently proves otherwise. The message urges contestants to pause, reflect and think before responding, reinforcing the central theme of the new season.

Kaun Banega Crorepati is the official Hindi adaptation of the globally acclaimed “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” franchise. Since its debut in 2000, the show has become one of India’s most successful television programmes, transforming the lives of numerous contestants while promoting knowledge and education across the country.

The format remains faithful to the original international version, with contestants answering a series of multiple-choice questions of increasing difficulty to win cash prizes. Participants can also use a set of lifelines whenever they face uncertainty, adding strategy and excitement to the competition.

Amitabh Bachchan has hosted every season of the show except the third, when Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan briefly took over hosting duties. Bachchan’s enduring association with KBC has made him an integral part of the programme’s identity, and his return for Season 18 is expected to draw audiences once again when the show premieres later this year.
