Mayank Yadav Stars as India Blank Zimbabwe 3-0 with Dominant 35-Run Victory

Harare, July 2026 : India completed a commanding 3-0 T20I series sweep over Zimbabwe with a convincing 35-run victory in the third and final match at the Harare Sports Club on Sunday. Fast bowler Mayank Yadav led the charge with a superb spell of 3/29 as India capped off an impressive tour in style, handing newly-appointed T20I captain Shreyas Iyer his first clean sweep as skipper.

After arriving in Zimbabwe following disappointing T20I series defeats against Ireland and England, the young Indian side responded in emphatic fashion, showcasing quality in both batting and bowling throughout the three-match series.

Batting first after winning the toss, India posted a challenging 192/5 on a sluggish surface, thanks largely to a brilliant knock from teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The left-hander played with remarkable maturity, smashing an entertaining 81 that laid the foundation for a competitive total. He received useful support from wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who chipped in with 29 runs, while the middle order ensured India maintained momentum through the latter stages of the innings.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batters, although Brad Evans emerged as the pick of the attack with two wickets. Blessing Muzarabani also claimed one scalp but found little assistance from the surface as India finished strongly.

Defending 193, India struck immediately as Mayank Yadav removed Brian Bennett with the very first delivery of the innings. Replicating his feat from the opening T20I, the speedster generated extra bounce and movement with a sharp 147 kmph delivery that found the outside edge, comfortably caught by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at first slip.

Yash Thakur then delivered a decisive double blow in the fourth over to leave Zimbabwe reeling. He first dismissed Dion Myers with a well-directed bouncer before producing a spectacular return catch to send back captain Sikandar Raza off the very next ball. The twin strikes reduced Zimbabwe to early trouble and firmly shifted the momentum in India’s favour.

Despite the setbacks, Ben Curran and Ryan Burl attempted to rebuild the innings with a steady partnership. However, Ravi Bishnoi broke the stand by dismissing Curran, while Mayank returned to remove Wessly Madhevere and Brad Evans, effectively ending Zimbabwe’s hopes of chasing down the target.

Debutant Ashok Sharma also enjoyed a memorable outing by claiming his maiden international wicket when he bowled Tadiwanashe Marumani with a delivery that uprooted the off stump.

Ryan Burl fought a lone battle for the hosts with an unbeaten 54 off 42 deliveries, but lacked support from the other end as Zimbabwe finished on 157/7 in their 20 overs. Although India were guilty of dropping five catches during the innings, the lapses had little impact on the outcome as their disciplined bowling attack kept the hosts under constant pressure.

The comprehensive victory completed a flawless series for India and provided an ideal start to Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy tenure in T20 internationals. The performances of emerging stars such as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Mayank Yadav and Ashok Sharma will also give the team management plenty of positives as India continue building a strong pool of young talent for the future.
