Election Commission Extends SIR Enumeration Deadline to August 10 in Telangana

Hyderabad, July 2026 : The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday extended the deadline for voters to submit enumeration forms under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by another week, providing additional time to those who are yet to complete the process.

Under the revised schedule, the last date for submitting filled-in enumeration forms has been extended from August 3 to August 10. The poll panel has also extended the deadline for rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations to August 10.

The latest decision marks the second revision of the SIR schedule by the Election Commission. The draft electoral rolls, which were earlier scheduled to be published on August 10, will now be released on August 17.

Following publication of the draft rolls, voters will be able to file claims and objections between August 17 and September 16. The notice and disposal process for claims and objections will continue from August 17 to October 15. The final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on October 19.

The Election Commission had previously revised the SIR timetable on July 15. Under the original schedule announced in May, the house-to-house enumeration exercise by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) was scheduled from June 25 to July 24. The draft electoral rolls were to be published on July 31, with the final rolls originally scheduled for October 1.

According to the latest SIR status report released on Friday, BLOs in Telangana have achieved 100 per cent distribution of enumeration forms among registered voters.

Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy said enumeration forms had been distributed to all 3,38,26,004 voters in the state. Of these, election authorities have so far digitised 77.12 per cent, or 2,60,88,334 forms.

With more than 77 lakh voters yet to submit their forms, the extension is aimed at providing them an additional opportunity to participate in the revision exercise and ensure that eligible voters are not left out of the electoral rolls.

The SIR exercise is intended to verify and update electoral rolls and identify discrepancies, including duplicate registrations, deaths, migration and other changes in voter status.

Andhra Pradesh Draft Rolls Published

Meanwhile, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh has completed another major stage of its SIR exercise, with the Election Commission publishing the draft electoral rolls on Friday.

According to Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav, nearly 45 lakh names have been deleted from the draft rolls following the verification exercise.

The deletions include 22.30 lakh voters who had permanently shifted or were found absent. Another 15.22 lakh names were removed after being identified as deceased, while 7.37 lakh voters were found to be registered at multiple locations.

As of July 24, Andhra Pradesh had 4,16,27,694 registered electors, of whom 3,71,38,182 had submitted their enumeration forms.

The remaining 44.89 lakh electors could not be located by BLOs or had not returned their forms for various reasons. These included voters who had shifted to other states or Jammu and Kashmir, could not be traced, had not submitted forms by the July 24 deadline or were unwilling to register as electors.

The publication of the draft rolls now provides voters in Andhra Pradesh an opportunity to examine the list and raise claims or objections within the prescribed period.
