Yogi govt accelerates issuance of ration cards to workers across UP

Lucknow : In line with the Yogi government’s steadfast commitment to ensure that no one in the state goes hungry, the Food and Civil Services Department is swiftly advancing the process of issuing ration cards to the state’s workers through an organized verification campaign. The campaign is being run by the department following a directive by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in this regard.

The verification process is progressing rapidly to provide ration cards to workers registered on the e-Shram portal. According to the latest data from the Food and Civil Services Department, 8.31 crore workers have been registered, with 6.73 crore already benefiting from government ration schemes.

Out of the 1.58 crore workers needing verification, 1.49 crore have been verified so far. Of the 26.47 lakh workers deemed eligible, 2.37 lakh are already receiving ration benefits, while 122.92 lakh workers have been found ineligible during the verification process.

To streamline the verification of workers, the Yogi government has introduced several key measures. Village-level verification teams have been formed to assess eligibility, and exemptions have been granted for income certificates and bank passbooks in the mandatory documentation. The verification team’s report will now serve as a valid income certificate for workers.

Following the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, District Magistrates across the state have expedited the process of issuing ration cards by promptly verifying eligible workers. Simultaneously, ineligible families are being identified, and their existing ration cards are being cancelled. In their place, new ration cards are being promptly issued to eligible worker families.

According to data from the e-Shram portal, the highest verification rates have been recorded in Chitrakoot, Amethi, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ballia, and Azamgarh. In Chitrakoot, 498 of the 1,374 eligible workers are receiving ration benefits, while in Amethi, 2,922 out of 8,919 eligible workers are benefiting.

Similarly, in Gautam Buddha Nagar, 530 out of 1,757 eligible workers are receiving ration, in Ballia, 10,623 out of 42,569, and in Azamgarh, 5,611 out of 22,600 eligible workers are accessing ration benefits.
