DMP to Stay on High Alert for Peaceful Durga Puja Celebrations

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will remain on high alert to ensure the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja across all mandaps in the capital, according to DMP Commissioner Mainul Hasan. He stated that necessary security measures have been implemented, and police are actively working to secure the event. The announcement was made during a meeting on security, law and order, and traffic management for Durga Puja held today at the DMP Headquarters.

The DMP commissioner explained that comprehensive security plans are in place for Mahalaya, Durga Puja, and the idol immersion ceremonies. The Puja-specific security operations have already commenced. Alongside uniformed and plainclothes officers, SWAT teams, the Crisis Response Team, Quick Response Team, Crime Scene Van, and the Bomb Disposal Unit will be on standby to handle any emergencies.

Commissioner Hasan urged Puja organisers to ensure that CCTV systems are fully operational during the celebrations. He emphasized the importance of having volunteers from each Puja mandap to work alongside law enforcement in providing 24-hour security. In case of emergencies, he encouraged everyone to contact the National Emergency Service 999 or the nearest police station.

Expressing optimism, the DMP chief said that with collective efforts, Durga Puja will be celebrated joyfully, safely, and smoothly. Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) Faruq Ahmed shared the vision of a Bangladesh where all religious communities can practice their faiths freely. Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Israil Howlader added that the DMP would collaborate with temple leaders to ensure maximum security. Joint Commissioner (Operations) Sana Shamimur Rahman also presented the detailed security, law enforcement, and traffic management plans for Durga Puja at the meeting.

Leaders from the Puja celebration committee, who attended the meeting, requested maximum cooperation from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to ensure the safety of Puja mandaps and efficient traffic management.
