Voter ID Card Not Mandatory, 12 Other Identity Proofs Accepted for Voting – Collector Sanjay Yadav

Mumbai : In addition to the Voter Identity Card (EPIC), the Election Commission of India has approved 12 other forms of identity proof for voting. Voters can present any one of these to cast their vote, according to Mumbai City Collector and Additional District Election Officer Sanjay Yadav.

Voting for the Vidhan Sabha general election in ten constituencies of Mumbai city district will take place on November 20, 2024. In light of this, Collector Yadav provided details on the identification requirements. Voters who possess a Voter ID card should present it at the polling station to verify their identity. However, for those who do not have a Voter ID card, any one of the 12 alternative identity proofs specified by the Election Commission will be accepted.

The accepted identity proofs include:

  1. Aadhaar Card
  2. Employment Identity Card issued under MNREGA
  3. Passbook with photograph issued by a bank or postal department
  4. Health Insurance Smart Card issued by the Ministry of Labour
  5. Driving License
  6. PAN Card
  7. Smart Card issued under the National Population Register by the Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner
  8. Indian Passport
  9. Pension Document
  10. Photo Identity Card issued by the Central or State Government or Public Sector Undertakings/Public Limited Companies to their employees
  11. Official Identity Card issued to members of Parliament, Legislative Assembly, or Legislative Council
  12. Special Identity Card issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for persons with disabilities

Indian citizens traveling abroad must present their original passport to verify their identity for voting.

Voters are advised to carry their voter information slip along with their Voter ID card or any one of the 12 accepted identity proofs when visiting the polling station.
