Chief Minister Presents a Compelling Overview of Gujarat’s Remarkable Development Journey
Gandhinagar : Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, addressing the FICCI National Executive Meet in Ahmedabad, praised Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for setting a remarkable example for both India and the world, showcasing how ambitious goals and developmental milestones can be achieved through the “Nation First” values. The Chief Minister highlighted that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, India is steadily advancing towards becoming the world’s third-largest economic power. The Prime Minister’s transformative initiatives over the past decade have paved the way for India’s journey toward Atmanirbharta (self-sufficiency) and sustainable growth. He also referenced a recent IMF report projecting India’s growth rate at 7 per cent, surpassing many developed nations. He further emphasized Gujarat’s emergence as the country’s ‘Growth Engine’ under the Prime Minister’s leadership, illustrating how visionary leadership and strategic development can transform challenges into opportunities.
The Chief Minister remarked that when Shri Narendra Modi assumed leadership of Gujarat in 2001, the state was facing numerous challenges, including the devastation of a major earthquake. Under Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, defined by a resolute commitment to transform adversity into opportunity, Gujarat has emerged as a model of development for the nation, powered by tireless efforts and widespread public support. The CM highlighted that, under the Prime Minister’s guidance, Gujarat has developed a vast and efficient road network, both horizontally and vertically, ensuring even the remotest villages are connected. The Chief Minister also highlighted Gujarat’s success in turning its 1,600-kilometer coastline into a strategic gateway for India’s maritime trade, establishing the state as a global leader in trade, commerce, and industry, with the Vibrant Gujarat Summit serving as a key milestone since its inception in 2003. Furthermore, he emphasized that Gujarat has become a policy-driven state, attracting significant Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and establishing itself as the country’s top investment destination, all thanks to visionary leadership.
The Chief Minister mentioned that 100 Fortune 500 companies are operating in Gujarat, with the state’s GSDP rising from ₹1.23 lakh crore in 2001-02 to ₹22.3 lakh crore in 2022-23. He further noted the remarkable growth of Gujarat’s manufacturing sector, which has increased from ₹44,886 crore in 2001 to ₹6.70 lakh crore in 2022-23, and its power generation capacity, which has expanded from 8,750 MW to 52,945 MW in 2023-24. Recognizing FICCI’s pivotal role in Gujarat’s development and its involvement in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that FICCI will continue to be a key partner in achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Gujarat’ for a ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’. He also emphasized that Gujarat is incentivizing emerging sectors in line with Prime Minister Modi’s forward-looking vision. New semiconductor plants are set to be established in Gujarat soon, while the state is also witnessing the construction of the largest solar and wind hybrid energy park in Kutch, further solidifying Gujarat’s position as a renewable energy hub. The Chief Minister extended his warm Diwali and New Year wishes to all present.
FICCI President Shri Anish Shah, in his welcome address, praised Gujarat for emerging as a model state under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel. He highlighted Gujarat’s significant contributions to India’s GDP, exports, and industrial output. The state has become a preferred destination for industries, and industries will play a crucial role in realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat. He further emphasized FICCI’s continued efforts toward supporting initiatives like Make in India, Women-Led Development, and Sustainability. Shri Rajiv Gandhi, Chairman of the FICCI Gujarat State Council, shared that FICCI has over 7,000 direct and 250,000 indirect members. He praised Gujarat for becoming the nation’s growth engine, noting the critical role industrial and economic growth have played in this success. He expressed confidence that today’s FICCI meeting would drive industry growth, focusing on sustainable development, innovation, and collaboration. During the event, FICCI President Shri Anish Shah presented a green certificate to Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel. FICCI President-Elect Shri Harshvardhan Agrawal, FICCI Vice President Shri Anant Goenka, Zydus Group Chairman and former FICCI President Shri Pankaj Patel were also present, along with industry leaders and FICCI committee members.
