Mahakumbhnagar : The much-anticipated corridor of the iconic Big Hanuman Temple at the Sangam in Prayagraj is now ready. Millions of devotees flock to this temple to worship Lord Hanuman through various traditional rituals, among which the Shodashopachar Puja holds special significance. This ritual is believed to fulfill every desire of devotees while removing all obstacles in their lives.
During a recent visit to the temple, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Shodashopachar Puja, which was facilitated by the temple’s chief priest and Mahant of Shri Math Baghambari Peeth, Balveer Giri Ji Maharaj. The Mahant provided insights into this unique ritual and shared that the Prime Minister was presented with a sacred Gauri-Shankar Rudraksha from Lord Hanuman’s neck. He also expressed his gratitude to PM Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath for their contributions toward organizing a grand and divine Mahakumbh.
Shodashopachar Puja: Worship with 16 Elements
Mahant Balveer Giri Ji revealed that Prime Minister Modi, like a devout host, performed the ritualistic Shodashopachar Puja ahead of the Mahakumbh. Despite his busy schedule, the PM devoted time to this special ritual, offering kumkum, roli, rice, akshat, and vermilion to Lord Hanuman.
The ritual, performed using 16 sacred elements, is considered highly auspicious, as it:
- Grants fulfillment of resolutions.
- Enhances spiritual merit (punya).
- Brings prosperity, happiness, and well-being.
Lord Hanuman, revered as the remover of obstacles, is worshipped in this ritual to eliminate all troubles. After the puja, PM Modi was adorned with the temple’s special Gauri-Shankar Rudraksha, which symbolizes Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This Rudraksha is usually worn around Lord Hanuman’s neck and is considered highly sacred.
PM Modi’s Humility: A Source of Inspiration
Mahant Balveer Giri Ji noted the radiant glow on the PM’s face during the puja, describing him as a leader who exudes humility and reverence for saints. He shared a heartwarming moment where the PM expressed heartfelt thanks to the priests after the ritual, a gesture rarely seen but deeply inspiring.
PM Modi also showed keen interest in the newly constructed corridor and discussed facilities for devotees with the temple administration. His behavior reflected the concern of a guardian dedicated to the welfare of the entire nation.
CM Yogi’s Visionary Contributions
Balveer Giri Ji also lauded Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his unprecedented focus on Prayagraj and the Sangam area. He remarked that no one has ever worked for the region as CM Yogi has. His visits to the temple are not just as a dignitary but as a devout host, reflecting his genuine connection with the spiritual community.
The Mahant described Yogi Adityanath as a leader whose concerns extend beyond religious institutions to the overall progress of Uttar Pradesh, making him a rare and admirable personality.
A Call for Cleanliness During Mahakumbh
Mahant Balveer Giri Ji issued an important message to the millions of devotees expected during the Mahakumbh. He emphasized that the responsibility of maintaining cleanliness lies not only with the government but also with the pilgrims.
He appealed to devotees to avoid throwing clothes, flowers, or plastic waste into the rivers or on the holy grounds. Highlighting the sanctity of Prayagraj, he said, “Walking a single step here during Magh Maas grants the merit of an Ashwamedha Yajna. Respect the pilgrimage site, and it will honor you in return.”
The Mahant concluded by urging everyone to make dedicated efforts to preserve the purity of this sacred land, where even the ignorant and the enlightened are equally blessed.
