The Bagh print artisans of Madhya Pradesh shine at Pune’s Virasat Haat

Madhya Pradesh’s nationally recognized rich traditional handicraft Bagh print made a remarkable impression at Pune’s Virasat Artisan Haat. The exhibition, held at Monalisa Kalagram in Pune, was inaugurated by renowned filmmakers Ms Gauri Shinde and Shri R. Balki. This is the first time that a Heritage Artisan Haat of this scale has been organized in India, featuring 30 prominent artisans from across the country. The exhibition will continue until February 3, 2025.

Bagh Print Receives Appreciation

National and international award-winning master craftsmen from Dhar district, Mohammad Yusuf Khatri and Abdul Karim Khatri showcased Madhya Pradesh’s prestigious Bagh print handicraft at the event. Craft enthusiasts from various cities in Maharashtra explored this ancient art, understood its intricacies, and experienced the rich heritage of Bagh print up close.

Prominent social activist Mrs. Lisa Pingle invited 30 distinguished artisans from across India to her farmhouse, Monalisa, free of cost. Expressing her special interest in Bagh print, she purchased a Bagh print saree, had a blouse stitched on the spot, and wore it to promote this unique craft.

Bollywood Applauds Bagh Print, Boosting Artisan Morale

Renowned Bollywood filmmakers Gauri Shinde and R. Balki praised the beauty and uniqueness of Bagh print. They appreciated the craftsmanship of Mohammad Yusuf Khatri and Abdul Karim Khatri and lauded their efforts to preserve and promote the Bagh print art form.

On this occasion, Mohammad Yusuf Khatri presented a special Bagh print painting to filmmaker R. Balki on behalf of Heritage Artisan Haat. This was a token of appreciation for his contribution and support towards handicrafts.

Bagh Print’s Popularity is Growing in Pune

During the exhibition, Pune’s residents expressed great admiration for Bagh print cotton fabrics and made significant purchases. This event not only served as a crucial platform for promoting Bagh print but also provided Madhya Pradesh’s artisans with an opportunity to showcase their craft at both national and international levels.

This initiative has proven to be an important step in bringing Madhya Pradesh’s traditional handicrafts and Bagh print to national and global markets.
