₹7.5 Lakh Compensation for Family of Excise Officer Killed in Anti-Illegal Liquor Operation – Deputy CM Ajit Pawar

Orders Formulation of a Permanent Policy for Such Cases

Mumbai : The Maharashtra government has approved a compensation of ₹7.5 lakh for the family of Kailas Genu Kasbe, a driver in the State Excise Department, Nashik, who lost his life during an anti-illegal liquor operation. Deputy Chief Minister and Excise Minister Ajit Pawar announced this decision, stating that a permanent policy for immediate assistance in such cases will be formulated following the model of the Home Department.

On July 7, 2024, officials from Nashik State Excise Department’s Flying Squad No. 1 raided a roadside eatery involved in illegal liquor sales. While pursuing the accused, their vehicle rammed into the excise department’s vehicle, leading to the death of Kailas Kasbe.

After assuming charge of the department, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar took personal interest in the case. Due to his efforts, the compensation amount was approved in line with the ₹7.5 lakh assistance granted to police personnel in similar cases since 2014. The government has granted this as a special provision for Kasbe’s family.
