Chennai Central Property Development Corporation Initiates Central Hub Project

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin, laid the foundation stone for the Chennai Central Hub building, a prestigious 27-story commercial structure with a project cost of ₹350 crore, developed by Chennai Central Property Development Corporation at the Central Railway Station premises.

In a grand event held today (February 14, 2025), the Hon’ble Chief Minister inaugurated the Central Hub project, which is designed to enhance Chennai Central’s significance as a global transit hub. The project is being executed under the Integrated Multi-Modal Transport Initiative by Chennai Central Property Development Corporation in coordination with multiple urban planning initiatives.

The Central Hub will serve as a key infrastructure element, connecting important locations such as Chennai Central Railway Station, Suburban Railway Station, Metro Station, Ripon Building (Greater Chennai Corporation), State Government Offices, and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. This initiative aims to improve accessibility and streamline passenger movement efficiently.

The Central Hub Project

The Central Hub is a key component of Chennai’s multi-modal transport infrastructure, facilitating seamless connectivity between various transport modes. The project is being implemented jointly by Chennai Metro Rail Corporation and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), with a 50:50 investment partnership.

The Central Hub building will span 14,280 square meters, with four existing basement levels and a 27-story superstructure reaching 120 meters in height. The floors will be allocated as follows:

  • Basement & First Four Floors – Retail and commercial spaces
  • 5th to 24th Floors – Office spaces
  • 25th Floor – Restaurants and leisure areas
  • 26th & 27th Floors – Viewing galleries and public spaces

This project is set to transform Chennai Central into a world-class urban landmark, maximizing land use efficiency while supporting diverse commercial and transit-related activities.

Dignitaries Present

The foundation stone-laying ceremony was attended by Hon’ble Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments Minister Mr. P.K. Sekarbabu, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion & Commerce Dr. T.R.B. Rajaa, Chief Secretary Mr. N. Muruganandam, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Chennai Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director Mr. M.A. Siddique, and other senior government officials.
