BJP to Elect New Delhi Chief Minister on February 19, Swearing-In on February 20
New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislature Party will convene in Delhi on February 19 to elect the new Chief Minister, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for February 20 at Ramlila Maidan, BJP sources confirmed.
Originally, the newly elected BJP MLAs were set to meet today to finalize the Chief Ministerial candidate. However, the meeting has been postponed until Wednesday. The oath-taking ceremony, initially planned for February 18, has now been rescheduled for February 20.
BJP General Secretaries Vinod Tawde and Tarun Chugh have been tasked with overseeing the arrangements. The event is expected to witness the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NDA Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, industrialists, film stars, cricketers, and religious leaders.
In the February 5 Assembly elections, the BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats, ending the 10-year rule of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and marking the party’s return to power in Delhi after 26 years.
Several names have emerged as potential candidates for the Chief Ministerial position, including Parvesh Verma, who defeated AAP chief and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, as well as former Delhi BJP presidents Vijender Gupta and Satish Upadhyay. Other contenders include Pawan Sharma, Ashish Sood, Rekha Gupta, and Shikha Rai.
With the BJP set to form the new government, the decision on Delhi’s next Chief Minister remains a key point of political discussion.
