“We Are All Inspired by the Constitution and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Ideals” – CM Devendra Fadnavis
CM Devendra Fadnavis Unveils the Equestrian Statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Badlapur
Thane : Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s reign was marked by the highest respect for women, and today, we continue to uphold his vision of a state that honors women. He united people from all social backgrounds to establish Swarajya. Our governance is guided by the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Indian Constitution, stated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during the unveiling of Shivaji Maharaj’s equestrian statue in Badlapur.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by MP Suresh Mhatre (Balya Mama), MLA Kisan Kathore, MLA Kumar Ailani, MLC Niranjan Davkhare, MLC Dnyaneshwar Mhatre, District Collector Ashok Shingare, Thane City Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre, Chief Officer Maruti Gaikwad, and a large number of citizens.
Addressing the gathering, CM Fadnavis expressed his pride in unveiling the statue of the great Maratha warrior on the eve of Shiv Jayanti in the historic city of Badlapur. He emphasized that Shivaji Maharaj was the reason India enjoys its freedom today, as he fearlessly resisted Mughal dominance at a time when many rulers accepted subjugation. Inspired by his mother Jijabai, he vowed to fight for God, Nation, and Dharma, ensuring that the people of Maharashtra would not live under foreign rule.
He further noted the stark contrast between the Mughal and Maratha armies. While the Mughal forces comprised well-paid professional warriors from Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Baluchistan, the Maratha soldiers (Mavlas) fought selflessly for their land, faith, and freedom. Despite having fewer resources and little financial backing, their unwavering spirit allowed them to defeat massive Mughal armies. This revolutionary fire, instilled by Shivaji Maharaj, ensured victory in battles against seemingly insurmountable odds.
CM Fadnavis highlighted Shivaji Maharaj’s administrative brilliance, describing his visionary approach to water management, forest conservation, fort construction, and naval development. The taxation system he established was well-structured and fair, ensuring the welfare of his subjects. Moreover, Shivaji Maharaj’s policies provided the highest respect and protection for women, setting an example for a just and inclusive society.
He emphasized that the statue is not merely a monument but a symbol of inspiration for future generations, guiding them on the path of courage, self-reliance, and good governance.
Regarding Badlapur’s development, CM Fadnavis announced that MMRDA will allocate funds for infrastructure projects, and the Urban Development Department will approve a water supply project. Additionally, new dams will be built on the Ulhas River to reduce flood risk, and desilting and deepening of the river will be undertaken. Plans for water treatment and metro expansion will also be expedited to boost the region’s growth.
MLA Kisan Kathore, in his address, highlighted Badlapur’s rich history from the Shivaji era and proposed that Ulhas River be developed as a tourist destination to promote tourism in the region.
During the event, CM Fadnavis was honored by the women of Badlapur, recognizing his commitment to development and heritage preservation.
