Discipline, Dedication, and Team Spirit of Athletes Give Society a New Direction: CM Yogi

Lucknow : Over 600 million devotees have taken a holy dip at the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj since January 13, reflecting immense enthusiasm and dedication. This same passion and commitment can be seen in the field of sports.

When an athlete competes, they represent their nation, and their discipline, dedication, and team spirit help shape society in a positive way, inspiring young people with renewed energy. Over the past decade, a new sports culture has emerged, and providing the necessary infrastructure for athletes remains a priority for the government.

India has launched various sports initiatives, leading to remarkable changes in Uttar Pradesh over the past eight years. Speaking at a private media group’s Sports Awards event on Saturday evening, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated the state’s commitment to sports development. During the event, he honored legendary athletes such as Kapil Dev, Madan Lal, Manu Bhaker, Mary Kom, PT Usha, and Suhas LY with awards.

50,000 Youth Clubs Receive Sports Kits

CM Yogi stressed that engaging youth in sports helps keep them away from distractions. The government is actively promoting sports activities, constructing sports fields at the gram panchayat level, and setting up open gyms for athletes. Additionally, sports kits have been distributed to youth and women’s clubs across villages, with 50,000 clubs receiving kits so far. Mini stadiums are being built in 826 development blocks, and each district is prioritizing the construction of full-fledged stadiums. The government firmly believes that investments in sports will never go to waste. Along with honoring athletes, the government is also offering job opportunities to them. Notably, Uttar Pradesh’s first Sports University is set to open in Meerut, with an Arjuna Awardee serving as its Vice-Chancellor.

Uttar Pradesh No Longer Lacks Resources or Funds

CM Yogi highlighted that efforts are underway to establish a sports college in each of the state’s 18 commissionerates. He expressed confidence that the state’s athletes would play a key role in channeling the nation’s energy in a positive direction. He also invited athletes to share their suggestions for sports development, assuring them that the government is committed to implementing valuable ideas. “Uttar Pradesh no longer lacks resources or funds. Earlier, the state struggled for basic infrastructure, but today, there is no such shortage. We are fully prepared to provide every possible facility—our athletes just need to be ready. Both the central and state governments are committed to supporting them in every way,” he said.

On this occasion, Minister Swatantra Dev Singh and Sports Minister Girish Yadav were also present.
