IT Data Centers and API Industry in Thane: Deputy CM Eknath Shinde Calls for Industrial Development Initiatives
Mumbai : Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the Industry Department to take proactive steps to boost IT data centers in the Thane region and provide necessary infrastructure for the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) industry to support pharmaceutical manufacturing.
A meeting was held today at the Deputy CM’s committee room in Mantralaya to discuss various development aspects of the Thane region. The meeting was initiated by the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA) and was attended by MITRA’s CEO Praveen Pardeshi, Additional Chief Secretary to the Deputy CM Asim Gupta, Principal Secretary Navin Sona, Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department Abha Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary of the Housing Department Valsa Nair, Principal Secretary of the Water Supply Department Sanjay Khandare, Principal Secretary of the IT Department Parag Jain Nainutia, Secretary of the Industry Department P. Anbalagan, MIDC CEO P. Velarasu, Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, and other officials.
During the meeting, discussions focused on boosting IT and data centers in Thane and Navi Mumbai by allocating dedicated plots within MIDC to develop a specialized data center park. The Industry Department was instructed to issue necessary notifications for this initiative.
Given the significant presence of API industries in Thane, measures were discussed to extend incentives applicable to ‘D’ category industries to API businesses and to allocate industrial land through MIDC. Additionally, the meeting also covered discussions on the construction of 3 million new homes in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
