Heavy Rain and Snowfall Alert Issued for Multiple States, Including Jammu
Delhi is currently experiencing an unusual mix of winter and summer, breaking a 74-year-old weather record. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain and snowfall warnings for several states, predicting significant weather fluctuations in the coming days.
Rain and Snowfall Warnings
The IMD has issued alerts for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Uttarakhand on February 28, forecasting heavy rain and snowfall in these regions. Additionally, light rain is expected in Delhi, Rajasthan, Western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana during this period.
Strong Wind Alert in Northeast India
According to the IMD, light to moderate rain and snowfall are likely to occur in Arunachal Pradesh over the next 24 hours, accompanied by thunderstorms. On February 28, rainfall is expected in the Sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal and Sikkim. Additionally, Assam and Meghalaya are expected to experience strong winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph on February 28 and March 1.
Rising Temperatures in Western India
While northern states brace for cold weather, the IMD has warned of rising temperatures in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa over the next 24 hours. These regions are expected to experience a significant heat effect. Meanwhile, no major changes in minimum temperatures are expected in North-West India for the next two days, though a gradual drop of 2-4°C is anticipated afterward.
Himachal Pradesh: Snowfall and Heavy Rain Expected
Himachal Pradesh is witnessing a shift in weather, with heavy rain and snowfall forecasted for Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, and Chamba districts on February 28. The IMD has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for these areas. Additionally, a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been declared for Lahaul-Spiti, where heavy snowfall is expected, and for Shimla, which may experience both rain and snowfall. Heavy rainfall has also been predicted in Una and Hamirpur districts.
Weather Update for Delhi
Delhi is currently witnessing changing weather conditions. According to Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Skymet Weather, cloudy skies and light drizzle in the capital may lead to a drop in minimum temperatures, extending the cold spell for the next few days. A new Western Disturbance is expected to become active in early March, which could bring fresh snowfall to the hills and alter wind patterns. As a result, Delhi is likely to experience cooler temperatures until March 3-4.
Unpredictable Weather Ahead
The IMD forecasts that some states will face extreme heat, while others will experience rain and snowfall in the coming days. This unusual mix of cold and heat highlights the dynamic nature of the current weather conditions, affecting various regions differently. Residents are advised to stay updated on official weather alerts and prepare accordingly.
