50% Discount for Women Tourists on International Women’s Day – Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai
Mumbai : In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) will offer a 50% discount to women tourists at its tourist accommodations across the state from March 1 to March 8, 2025. Along with this discount, several tourism-related initiatives will be launched. This initiative falls under the ‘Aai’ women-centric and gender-inclusive tourism policy, informed Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai.
Tourism Minister Mr. Desai stated that MTDC has implemented ‘Aai’, a women-centric tourism policy, to ensure a safer, more convenient, and memorable travel experience for women. The special discount for Women’s Day in 2024 received an overwhelming response, benefiting over 1,500 women tourists. Encouraged by this success, the scheme is being reintroduced in 2025. Encouraging Women’s Participation in Tourism
Minister of State Indranil Naik highlighted the state government’s commitment to increasing women’s participation in tourism. Notably, MTDC’s women-operated tourist accommodations in Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Kharghar (Navi Mumbai) are entirely managed by women. From resort management, security, and taxi services to housekeeping and hospitality, all responsibilities are handled by women, creating employment opportunities for them in the tourism sector.
30 Days of Special Discounts for Women Tourists
Apart from the March 1-8, 2025 period, an additional 22 days throughout the year will also offer a 50% discount, bringing the total discount period to 30 days. The exact dates for these 22 days will be announced on the MTDC website. Additionally, stalls for women’s self-help groups will be set up at MTDC’s tourist destinations, and special adventure and cultural activities will be organized for women tourists.
